Very barrel-heavy, very sweet. You can do it once in a while, but certainly not for every day.
    • Nose
Gummy bears, sweet grapes, pipe tobacco, leather, mint.
    • Taste
Liqueur sweet. Could be a pretty good cigar companion. Cream caramel candy. raisins. dates.
    • Finish
Warming and spicy, but remains sweet. Bit of oak.

The sweetness here is a bit drier and spicier than the bondage before. In comparison, you can clearly see the influence of Malaga in No. 1. Here, too, a very slight prickling of the alcohol in the nose. Behind the classic PX aromas. Toffee, chocolate, raisins, leather, minimal tannins, some caramel and a little roasted almonds. From the nose it would be difficult for me to tell a difference from the large sherry malts that are and were on the market. Even his age of only 10 years is hardly noticeable in his nose.
    • Taste
      91 91
It comes out of the glass even creamier, oilier and heavier than the bondage. It's unbelievable that this has increased. Almost like pure Paxarette, but in a positive way! The alcohol is perfectly integrated, no trace of youth. Everything the sherry heart desires in terms of taste. I won't bother listing everything again. You can't drink a tasting note...
    • Finish
      90 90
With latex, the finish is a whole lot longer than with bondage. In my opinion, this malt does not separate into sweet and dark/dry, but remains powerful and long on the finish. The sweetness fades away a bit and it becomes slightly drier and spicier.

Another brilliant whisky from the Harz Mountains, just before bondage for me...both at a high level.

An incredible exceptional malt from the whisky smithy in the Harz Mountains.

I have now had it tasted in 4 blind tastings in groups of 4-6 people each and all the great and greatest classics came out as tips for this malt:
    Macallan 18-25
    Glengoyne 21
    Glendronach Single Cask 20y.o.+
    Aberlour Single Sherry Casks 18y.o.+
    and a few more

And everyone's eyes fell out when I said 10 yo resin. World views were destroyed on these days and I was able to enjoy it very much.
But I could and still can enjoy this drop even more.

Sweet leatheriness, raisin puree, sugared plums, grandma's finest tangerine jelly, which was only available for Christmas every 5 years, plus fruit bread, chocolate and caramel.

Anyone who still claims after this malt that the Harzers don't know whisky is either completely blinded or tongue-deaf.

195 euros and worth every single cent. In the end it's not even 6 per glass.

Opinions may differ on the packaging, I found it a welcome change, but it reminded me of my laboratory days (back when there were still gloves containing latex) and the suggestiveness also has something nice about it.

    Good job!!!

Incredibly good drop from high-quality PX casks. Almost black, viscous, fully aromatic whisky that is fortunately not too sweet. The alcohol is well integrated. This 10-year-old whisky from the Harz can easily keep up with whiskys that are more than twice as old.

At first glance, 195 euros sounds very expensive, but for me the price-performance ratio here is absolutely great. Whiskys that are comparable in terms of the range of aromas offered, but of course are older, usually cost significantly more.

    Manufacturer information:

This Elsburn has it all. Not only is it the second official Mistress of Distilling Bottling, from Anna's private casks, the packaging is also special again.
This Elsburn bottling wears a latex robe with a leather collar as "packaging". Pure grace meets the fine art of whisky distilling.
The starting point is a single PX Sherry Hogshead, which was distilled on November 11th, 2011 and has therefore reached an age of 10 years.
The aroma is enormously lush and the color borders on black.
A single malt for lovers of old and fully mature sherry malts.

    The main flavors:

    malt
    raisins
    dark chocolate
    tangerines
    toffee
    caramel
    fruitcake
    dried fruit

A total of 248 bottles were produced at full cask strength of 54.8% vol. bottled - of course all our single malts do not contain any colorings (non-coloured) and without chill-filtration (non-chill-filtered).
The bottling is 100% handmade, as is the coating and the collars.

    Malt:
    100% unpeated

Optics or not, I would first like to examine the inner values.

This is the best non-smoky malt from this distillery and one of the top 5 I've had.

    The droplet is SO big.

Not overly sweet, but a sherry cask.
Not dull musty, but woody fine.
Lots of chocolate, caramel and a potpourri of the finest fruit salad.

As for the optics (which is great), I thought "naaaa, more packaging than content" but FAR wrong. The content is as cool as the look.

€195 is not cheap, but the Malt plays in the range of old 18 Macs

    THE STORY
Hammerschmiede is innovative again and has struck for the second time. According to the first motto "Bondage" from the Mistress of Distilling series, this bottling has the motto "Latex".
I'm curious where the journey will go next.
I would have expected something like that in the combination from Japan. There it would go very well with Japanese whisky.
Since I always look twice at gaudy designs of the packaging and I'm rather skeptical when it's more about the outer than the inner values, I can calmly concentrate on the packaging in this case. I know about the high quality of the inner values that are delivered in the hammer mill.

    THE PRICE
You had to shell out €195 for a bottle. Compared to the previous edition, this is an increase of €46. Incidentally, it also applies to the ten-year-old Alrik, who was also available in the shop for €149.
46,- € more - is that the beginning of greed or have the manufacturing costs increased so much? It will certainly not be the end of the road and we will already see offers from resellers above the 300 mark tomorrow.

    THE SALE
Everything worked this time. In the email from the Hammerschmiede, the day of sale was April 17th. mentioned, but information was missing at the start time. I guess it started at 09:00. I kept checking and at 9:23 a.m. there were still 23 bottles. At 9:35 a.m. the spook was over. Unlike Alrik 10, the server was always available.

Now you have to wait for the delivery to come. Then it's finally time for the content. :)
    • Nose
      91 91
Intense and there is a lot of what you get from the PX cask in terms of aromas: dark fruits such as raisins and plums, chocolate and toffee notes. In addition, some of the typical Elsburn DNA of pine resin, spicy tones and mineral elements.
      .
    • Taste
      93 93
Nice texture and the alcohol is well integrated. Try adding water a bit and it opens up even more.
Lots of caramel, toffee, cookies and chocolate again.
Tangerines and aromas of dark preserved fruits spread in the mouth.
      .
    • Finish
      91 91
The Elsburn-typical herbal spiciness harmonizes skillfully with the wood and the sweet, dark-fruity elements. The finish is of medium length.
