  1. laph1 scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Information thanks to Ardnamurchan's transparency approach through blockchain: the five sherry hogsheads are 2014 vintages and the 45 bourbon barrels are from 2015.

  2. Fight65 did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

The following 50 casks were married for this bottling:
    -40- peated bourbon barrels
    -5- unpeated bourbon barrels
    -5- sherry barrels

  3. thijs100 scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

It's texture is extremely fatty and my satisfaction is only heightened by the effortless balance that is achieved.
    • Nose
Opens up on whiffs of pickled lemon, golden syrup and tobacco smoke, but there's a floral touch also. Then some oat cookies, roasted peanuts and orange marmelade. Surprisingly mellow and well-behaved for a peated cask strength single malt.
    • Taste
Creamy mouthfeel with shortbread, white pepper, lemon zest and honey. Touches of vegetal smoke, bananas and some mineral whispers as well. Also briny oysters and green olives.
    • Finish
More of the same. Just really good.

Great value for money, easy sipping cask strength!

  5. HammerHead scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

A comparable profile to the regular 46% bottlings (citrussy, vanilla, mineral), but much more spicy due to the higher abv and the higher percentage of peated barrels used. Very likable indeed.
    • Nose
      87 87
Smoky and greasy, charred, chalk, light soy sauce (fish sauce), salty, smoked lemons, lime, sour apple, hay, vanilla, quite spicy on black pepper.
    • Taste
      86 86
Thick and oily, smoked, vanilla, lemon, lime, honied liquorice, hay, charcoal, mineral and salty, quite spicy on fried peppers.
    • Finish
      86 86
Fairly long already: vanilla, sweet honey, lemon oil, charcoal, liquorice, a spicy bitterness, black pepper and some chili's.

Wins by water. More oily and fruity(sweeter). Smoke is subtle.

    Aroma

Some smoke, sweetish, despite the smoke, it looks very young and fruity

    taste
    Sweet, boring, spicy

    finish
    In short, jelly beans, spicy

  15. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Exciting smoker with his own profile. Overall sweet but less smoky than expected and a nice young dram.
    • Nose
Sweet, smoky. Fruity. Red Bull and kind of creamy. Gummy bear. lemon liqueur, peat. Grain. Exciting.
    • Taste
Strong in the mouth, only slightly smoky, sweet. Creamy again.
    • Finish
Light liquorice, some Red Bull gummy bears, no idea why they associate. Mint, peat and some wood.

Far too salty for me on the palate neat, but water saves it. Not quite for me, but I get why most like it more.
    • Nose
Typical Ardnamurchan - lots of sweet heather at the forefront, mineral peat, honey, slightly charred lemons, some spicy wood, shortbread, oily butter.
    • Taste
Mangoes, heather, lots of brine (I'm sensitive to this note), pepper, lemon zest, shortbread. Oily. With plenty of water the dram becomes more citric and less salty - I prefer it this way.
    • Finish
Less salty. The heather is quite sweet here, otherwise more of the same but with less fruit than the palate. Mild cardboard note with water.

It is impressive how drinkable Ardnamurchan is at a young age, although the vintages in this batch from 2014 and 2015 have already matured for at least 6 years. Time moves on. In my opinion, the whisky is still not very pleasant to drink at full strength, although it does show how much it is a powerhouse. However, with a few drops of water, a complexity unfolds that makes you lick your fingers. The producer might consider releasing a 55 percent version. That would be just right. This whisky is very reminiscent of the older Longrow 100 Proof bottlings in the red box. Very pure, clean, nice peat, powerful punch in the aftertaste. Very fresh, but in the mix there is a sweetness hidden. Ardnamurchan continues the "tour de force" towards an initial 8-, 10- or 12-year standard.

An exciting, independent bottling that beautifully brings out the character of Ardnamurchan. However, for me the alcohol is not yet ideally integrated, the youth can still get through.
    • Nose
      86 86
When I smell it for the first time, I can clearly smell alcohol, but also dry, mineral smoke. Very maritime and intense. Fruit notes such as apple and pear are present. Through the grilled lemon you could also recognize bonds from Caol Ila, otherwise I would spontaneously be in Campeltown.
    • Taste
      88 88
Nice, oily mouthfeel, intense on the tongue, again a bit wild on entry, but that can be managed a little better with water. Clear smoke, mineral and salty again, some sharpness and oak spice.
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium length, again smoky and quite sweet (vanilla/honey)
