A very fine thing, what the Hobby Distillery Masters create. There are always new ideas and every small bottling is always a surprise. It is particularly remarkable that the beautiful, rough, distinctive distillery character is always clearly recognizable in the most diverse bottlings. He doesn't dominate too much, but mostly works in the background. In terms of taste, it cannot be compared to any other whisky. No hyped mainstream product, but simply the best Austrian whisky among leading Tyrolean whisky experts.
General information about the barrel:
Most barrels are specially made from wood from Tyrolean forests. The whisky is stored for approx. 2-3 years, but due to the small cask (5-20 L) with a high percentage of wood surface/volume, this corresponds to a storage time of approx. 8-12 years. I never really understood the exact cask numbering (basic cask, post-maturation cask, combination?). But it doesn't matter, I use the label as a guide.
General information about the assessment:
Difficult to describe a flavor with a number as it can also vary quite a bit depending on your mood. But since the rating number is a core element nowadays, also at whiskybase, I therefore generally award a 90. Va for individuality! Even if one tastes more or less good to me.
About this bottling:
The cask wood comes from the same place where the distillery is located. Pure distillate, no post-aging. The taste is correspondingly pure and unadulterated.
