A cigar malt from the Brühl whisky house. Cigar Malt stands for sherry-heavy, full-bodied whiskys, not only at ADOS, where the distillery is rather secondary. Same here, it is not mentioned. The whisky must be able to hold its own against a cigar, ideally it must support the aromas of the cigar (or the cigar the aromas of the whisky, it doesn't matter...) The color is at least red-gold and dark. That's sherry, baby!

    • Nose
Sherry! But nice sherry, not this cheap industrial honey note, which these whiskys can also develop and which then reminds of bad cough syrup. Here it is mature sherry with some sweetness and nutty aromas. There is also grated chocolate with cherry jam, figs and juicy dates. Some leathery tobacco aromas are also added - or does the name evoke the association?
    • Taste
The whisky is 15 years old and the age has contributed to the sherry aromas not only appearing poorly but integrated nicely. It's an opulent whisky where the sherry flavors reign supreme, it's the expected sherry bomb with tart chocolate that melts in the mouth with cherry blackcurrant rosemary filling.
    • Finish
Slightly nutty wood aromas remain in the mouth with a hint of fruit, roasted pumpkin seeds and almonds, slightly tart as a contrast to the dried fruit. And at the end there are also woody notes and a bit of mustiness from the damp wine cellar.

Sure, you can reject those sherry boards and wish for an honest, beautifully bourbon-aged citrus whisky. But sometimes it has to be cherry cake instead of rye bread. This whisky is good, it's a cleanly crafted sherry bomb, where the distillery doesn't matter - but has distilled a good whisky as a basis. This isn't just fast-matured broth poured into a treacle keg - a delicious whisky has actually been made here.

After No. 3 another disappointment, which unfortunately doesn't really do justice to the series.
Quite drinkable stuff, which on the one hand lacks a bit of power and on the other hand has off-notes.
Edit: after a little time in the bottle with a lot of air, the off-notes have become weaker. Maybe it was the bottle shock at the first tasting, because an opened bottle was sent

Hmm, unfortunately it starts with beef broth and old vegetables - probably also due to a sulfur compound. Then some warm sauna wood behind it, then prunes are added. Flambéed fruits.
      Alcohol really well integrated.
Edit: I would certainly give 3-4 points more after 8 weeks of an untouched bottle, since the off-notes take a back seat. I increase from 80 to 84
    • Taste
      85 85
Sweet and surprisingly soft to start with. Really over 50%? Yes, there is some sharpness with a delay. It remains sweet, sulfur flares up, then baked fruit, dried apricots, hot cherries. punch fruits. If it weren't for the off notes...
Edit: hardly any off-notes here either, quite sweet and very spicy. Lacks some balance, but upgraded from 83 to 85
    • Finish
      84 84
Relatively short for a "Cigar Malt". The sweet wine aromas prevail here.

with water: he does not need it

Conclusion: Is that still whisky or more of a liqueur? Here the sherry cask has left nothing of the malt, but this whisky goes really well with a cigar, in pairing with a Cohiba Siglo VI this drop really convinced me, and that's why I give it quite a lot of points
    • Nose
"Grafschafter Goldsaft" sugar beet syrup, strawberries, cocktail cherries, a good portion of sulphur, which doesn't bother us here, plum jam, grape sweetness, very well integrated alcohol, forest honey, sugared figs
    • Taste
syrupy, thick and bold, very sweet, strawberry, thickened grape must
    • Finish
medium long, here too the heavy, thick sweetness of grapes, figs and strawberries, some wood at the back with some liquorice, anise and cinnamon and a little sulfur - with water: it doesn't need it

  6. JoshNRW did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

I don't even want to rate this whisky today because I don't want to drag it down and tear up these bottlings all the time.
I like, appreciate and respect Marco as a person and the Brühler whisky house fueled my passion for whisky in the first few years, not only because of the friendliness there, like no other influence.
The bottling (Red Zora, Very Old Blend 1 + 2, the old Laddie and PC bottlings from the wine barrel, the first Laddiemore) were such great bottlings.

Unfortunately, in the last two or three years, all bottlings taste similar and are totally overrun for my taste. In addition to this whisky, I also poured the last Bunna 15 ADoS and both smell - apart from the sulfur in this one - from the profile so similar.
    Syrupy dark sweetness.
    • Nose
The typical dark sherry sweetness and clear sulphur. Reminds me a bit of the Lagavulin bottlings that you could buy in the BW for 60 euros 3 years ago. They were also very tasty, but much more exciting.
    • Taste
A liqueur-like sweetness spreads sweetly in the mouth. The sulfur does not compete with the sweetness and is no longer as clearly perceptible as in the nose. It's hard for me to write notes here again. The alcohol is well integrated.
    • Finish
Medium length and heavy, like a Mon Cherrie that melted in your mouth.

[May, 2022] A quick review of a sample...

...which is another one of these "hit-and-run" drams with some minor sulphurous off-notes. Such creations make a bold first impression (because of a heavy finish) but that's it. I guess these were exhausted casks with an almost unmatured malt which are pimped up by a strong wine finish. So I taste high-proof wine, wine, some sulphur, wine but nothing else - that is why I call such drams "winesky" instead of whisky. Legally they are, no doubt about it and there is nothing wrong with it if you just like a sweet and heavily powered liqueur drink but taste-wise this is not malt whisky to me, sorry folks.

Trade fair bottling for the Whisky Fair Düsseldorf, among others
Very accommodating. Issue price there ~ €105.
    • Nose
      90 90
Strawberries, cherries, sweet figs, forest honey, dusty-mineral barrel spice.
    • Taste
      90 90
Strawberries, cherries, honey. Spicy, sweetness and dryness are nicely balanced.
Alcohol is integrated very nicely, the amontillado notes make it special.
    • Finish
      89 89
Dry, medium-bodied with a pleasant oak bitterness. sweet and dusty Fruit accompanies pleasantly.
