Whisky Reviews for Strathisla 08-year-old GM

3 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 82.67 points

This Strathisla from the 1980's is a nice surprice. The nose needs time to open all its flavours.
    • Nose
Maltiness of sweet barley and cereals. Shortbread. Later on more apple and cider. Flowery notes and some smooth oakiness. Also wet stones. Quite complex actually for an 8 year old whisky.
    • Taste
Hmm very delicious. Fresh and lively. Apricot. Melon and pear. Also orange and tangerines. Polished furniture at the background. Carraway and cinnamon as well.
    • Finish
Medium long. A little pepper. Gingery. Liquoirce. At the end more bitterness of grapefruit. Well balanced in my view.

Nose: Fruity to apple and some dark fruits. Some toffee and a "dry" note. In the mouth a bit peppery and very light on the finish, this is certainly the only 40% ABV of the bottling. Some bitterness of the oak is noticeable in the finish.

    Color: full gold
Nose: Hot and salty. An earthy character with aromas of dull leather, moss, humus, autumn leaves, caramel, wood, shortbread biscuits and honey characterize the nose. Fresh, salty aromas accompany these notes. The delicate sherry smoke looks very floral.
Taste: Thin, watered-down lemon with a lot of hot pepper, bitter herbs, mint, wood, malt and oranges that are too long (to put it harmlessly). Also a little interesting mix of Turkish mocha, dull leather, wood and furniture polish. To make matters worse, there is also a load of perfume that hovers over the taste.
Finish: medium length - very tart and bitterly underlaid. The sweet moments try to fight their way through. Dry and fading based on nuts, nutshells and mint.
    77 points (nose: 84 / taste: 68 / finish: 79)
