I tasted this whisky as a part of an almost full Craigellachie lineup, featuring the 13, 17, 19 and 23 year olds, and 3 exceptional casks. In that lineup this Bas-Armagnac finish seemed to me like an unnecessary addition. It isn't bad by any means, but it felt less characterful than the regular 13yo and there was nothing in it that caught my fancy.

One interesting bit of information about it is that while the normal Craigellachie releases use a mixture of first fill and refill bourbon and sherry casks, the spirit for this armagnac finish comes entirely from refill bourbon casks.

Intense taste, fruity, pear, citrus fruit, sweetish

Medium length, sweetish fruity, ginger spiciness

Solid whisky. The Armagnac finish has a more subtle influence. There are certain differences to the 13-year standard.

Prime numbers are unfathomable and defy understanding, just like this delicious 13 year old. Anyone looking for the signature sulphur tang here will be disappointed, or possibly relieved! The sheer potency of the armagnac must have neutralised the influence of the worm tub, but rest assured that's not scientifically sound. This brew is a real fruit monster with salient vanilla and pineapple notes, a hint of charred on the nose and minimal astringency on the finish. Good thing I ordered 2 bottles because the first is almost gone.

Actually quite tasty, fruity sweet malt. But I don't find it particularly special now. Sample is enough for me.

Soft, woody aromas are on the nose from the start. In addition, it becomes sweet and fruity. Grapes, pineapple, tangerines, bananas. Fruit flavors are generally more exotic. In addition citrus fruits, honey, it somehow has a great fruity nose. Very aromatic fresh. Light roasted aromas,

Relatively powerful attack, tingling, spicy, with caramel, vanilla. Some rice pudding with cinnamon, plus a slightly peppery spiciness.
    • Finish

Medium-length finish, coffee with milk, only very slightly bitter, vanilla and more fruity sweetness again,

The Armagnac finish fits here very well, because unlike a cognac, an Armagnac is normally only distilled once and is therefore a bit more distinctive. Because it's just a finish, he was able to deliver enough intensity to the relatively young whisky that was diluted down at the end.

Soft, friendly and sweet notes of fermented grapes complement Glenallachie's fruity profile very well. Overripe tropical and sweet citrus fruits with honey and yet some wood.

The bitterness is present all the time and doesn't quite match the nose. But it's not unpleasant either, I just didn't expect it to be quite so clear.
I have had thinner whiskys for the key data and for the price and here you can see the Glenallachie character again (if you know that it is one).

Lots of sweetness again and enough intensity for the key data.

Not too short for the age and the 46 percent

In general, I don't think Armagnac is as good as Cognac, for example, and it doesn't really add much to the whisky here. average, maximum.

Interesting new release, Armagnac finishes are rather rare so far. The whisky presents the sour-fruity Craigellachie character more precisely and delicately than the 13-year-old standard. The woody European oak brings additional complexity and nice edges, but I don't find it dominant. Some UA lack body, but: successful bottling. 50 euros issue price in Germany.

    Nice aroma!
    Soft and lovely.
    woody notes
    Nothing else for now.

    Some bitterness in the background.
When I think of brandy, I almost think I can smell it.

    Strong in the mouth!
    The slight bitterness remains.
Probably shouldn't stay in the barrels any longer.
It's all focused on the barrel.

    I keep at it
    these are nice wood aromas.
    Not tasty, but noble.
But for a whole bottle it's a bit woody and bitter...
