Neat, it is a bit disappointing at first. It’s quite closed, and the PX hides everything. Once you add a few drops of water, though, both the nose and the palate open, the alcohol doesn’t take the back seat but leaves the flavours talk for themselves, and you can really start to enjoy it. It shows a bit of an old style as well, you can really find some similarities with the 1970s 12-year-old OB when reduced. But, despite its lower ABV, I quite prefer the original.
    • Nose
Neat: Very intense, you cannot ignore the ABV. Heavy PX sherry influence. It’s a bit meaty and herbal and rubbery, a bit of umami as well. It needs quite some time to tone down a bit and stop destroying your nostrils. After some aeration, quite nutty and musty. Not very subtle.

With water: cigarette ash, bay leaf and thyme.
    • Taste
Neat: Thick, musty and hot arrival. Rum & raisin ice cream, herbal liquor notes (think Bénédictine), figs, with a slight sourness, like grapefruit-sour but without the citrusiness (Yes, this word probably doesn’t exist, but you get what I mean.)

With water: Aaah it’s better now, some sweetness (but not too much), thick chocolate sauce, and a little pepper. The sourness quite disappeared.
    • Finish
Cigarette ash, herbal notes, hints of espresso, some fig sweetness. Medium length.

Clearly some PX influence with the sweet red fruits. Where PX can be much too sugar sweet for me, this time it remains within my limits, pleasant sweet fruity touch.
Quite powerful and alcoholic, can certainly use some drops of water.
    • Nose
      86 86
Powerful, quite some alcohol punch noticeable initially. Very fruity and sweet, light fruits, sugared strawberries or something.
With some drops of water, the sharp alcoholic edge disappears a little.
    • Taste
      86 86
Initially very intense, spicy, pepper. Red fruits, berries and cherries, some sugar sweetness but certainly not overwhelming.
With some water, the sharp side gets less, more sweetness now, fruitcake.
    • Finish
      85 85
Still powerful yet less intense, warming though. Red fruits, berries and cherries with a vanilla sweet background. Medium long finish.
With water, things get more smooth now.

A very meaty kind of sherry matured dram that manages to deliver a rough but enjoyable ride without ever approaching any serious subtlety or complexity. If you enjoy this style of sherry maturation, this is it.

Nose: full, settled sweetness and a bit musty - a lot of barrel right from the start, raisins, lovage, pear, a few figs, a bit nutty

Palate: creamy with heavy sweetness, raisins, lovage, pear juice, a few figs, a bit nutty, a bit musty

Finish: medium length and warm, heavy sweetness, raisins, pear

Conclusion: a full sherry board with heavy sweetness and a little mustiness, which doesn't bother here: raisins, lovage, pear. It has something and knows how to please, because it keeps a certain tension thanks to lovage and sherry sweetness and delivers a nice play of aromas.

    87/100 or 7/10

Glen Grant with sherry cask aging has always been what I like. Here with a PX finish.
Old school Glen Grant. Oak cabinet, raisins, herbs and sweet dark sherry notes. Fruity with a long, chocolatey, espresso-like finish.
    Conclusion: unfortunately great

Beacuse high abv its need a little water to open. Strong influence of wooden oak cask. Very pleasant one the nose. Taste I founded quite strong oak barrel and fruity sweetness. Finish long and enjoyable. Interesting position for more advanced whisky lovers.
