      Colour:
      Amber

      Nose:
For me it starts with freshly worked wood. A chemical note is included. The background makes it more and more earthy and musty. I'll leave something there…
With a little time in the glass, the colleague changes a little. The chemical note gives way to the back. However, an artificial, sweet note remains. In addition honey and dry sherry. There's an aroma inside that reminds me of chestnuts. A little menthol cools the nose. In addition malt and a few herbs. For me, the sour things that play here go towards fermented berries.
    • Taste
The taste of the artificial sweetness. Has something of Haribo coke bottles. Then wood and herbs again. There's a special taste inside. It totally reminds me of potatoes from the embers with herbs on top.
A second sip of banana and apricots and then the moldiness again. Tastes a bit thin, but also tart at the same time.
    • Finish
Short to medium length. Sweet liquorice, dry cereals and rancid butter. Sour plums round off the finish.

Very light, partially felt as if diluted. A nice duet of tree and tropical fruits.
    • Nose
Delicate and fruity, honey, pineapple, banana, orange, a basket of tropical fruits, a light piece of wood.
    • Taste
Nuts and again fruits, prunes and pineapple, very far somewhere a haze from a fire and dried banana.
    • Finish
Short, light, airy, sweet fruit with cream, a little haze.

    Blindverkostung
    • Nose
In the first moment, very little comes out of the glass. He is getting more intense. The nose is a bit "schnapsig" at the beginning then comes malt and cereals. The cereal note is getting stronger. A light sweet moves from behind through the glass. But nothing dominant. A little bit of woody lightning too.
    • Taste
The schnapsige I have in the taste. Likewise the cereal notes. The sweetness is felt only at the edges of the tongue. Otherwise, not much. Maybe he is even a little alcoholic.
    • Finish
In the finish, the spicy and the bitter beats from the barrel. But not very pleasant but rather long-hanging. The finish itself is rather short and dry.

super nose - on the palate for CS connoisseurs with its 40% just too weak - although he intercepts that quite well with its aromas
    • Nose
ripe oranges, plums, apricots - very fruity - with a touch waxy and then fresh limes - continue very fruity and noble especially for its price range - raisins, delicate oak with roasted hazelnuts, some herbaceous sap with a light bitter note, fresh sawn boards, a touch of floral notes
    • Taste
at first very thin and feeble - then tenderly bitter oak with some pine needle and resin, subtle sweetness with dark chocolate, getting drier and not so thin when you chew it, with the second sip of dates, oranges with orange oil and the bowl, laurel leaves , Mint a little cinnamon
    • Finish
dry, with light pepper - a little bit of wax, a lot of medium length and thus more than I expected from the weak start.

1st tasting: A powerful nose, rich, deep, lots of wood. A creamy mouth, but not too much, a lot of spices. The mouth is a little behind what the nose suggests, but the whole is of great quality. 2nd tasting: On the nose, already wood that gives the smile and orange zest quite pronounced. In the mouth, velvety texture but not full enough, the fault at 40 ° only. A little side lime that comes tickle, caramel and tons of wood. Average final in length. Enthusiasm 3/5

Suffers from the low abv on the nose and body, finish is suprisingly long and tickeling. A bit unbalanced though. Not that bad too.

I have to say I preferred this much more than the Superstition.  I’m not a fan of the rather ‘funky’ notes I usually get from Juras, but I don’t mind them here.  The age has definitely given this one some character, but the whole thing is brought down considerably by the low abv.  At cask strength, this one would be really interesting. Maybe I should be on the look out for some Jura IBs.

A highly common sweet & sour recipe, in chocolate & orange. Has a welcome peanut-angle for balance. Diluted to 40 % abv., so serious Jura fans go look for something stronger.
    • Nose
      Pleasant, yet mild.

Sherry, mint, chocolate, fresh fruit, orange sour. Hints of meat pop up once in a while.
    • Taste
Advertized as "Rich & Full Bodied". Stands at 40 % alcohol, so no body to speak of. Just seasoning.
      Doesn't hold up to water.
Orange sour, chocolate sweetness, honey, peanuts, expectorant.
    • Finish
A warm sensation, deriving from sourness, alcohol and some spices. Hard to find any smoke or peat. The peanuts linger and give another angle to the dram. Otherwise it would be just another orange chocolate recipe for senior whisky fans.

  15. Calmar scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

It is simple and simple, but very delicate and soft, with a perfect balance and good saturation for a minimum strength.
    • Nose
Fresh, open, carpentry, treated wood, window putty, smoked meat, wet wool.
    • Taste
Soft, sweet-oak, fondant, boiled condensed milk, fruit sweetness, light peppery wave.
    • Finish
Light pepper, sweet grapefruit, light bitterness, warm, warming; young bark.

I can’t believe i only tried this 16yo once before, way back at the distillery in 2012.

    N: Sweet malty raisin sponge.
T: Basic cereal mash malt, a little clogged up.
F: Putty sweet mash with raisins.
C: Jura is a distillery i don’t get too excited about though this 16yo is decent enough. Same score as last time or thereabouts.Scores a C[+]

Can you drink well, but is quite meaningless to the nose. If I may assume, the 40% probably killed him.
    • Nose
Wonderful nose with dry plums, green apples, honeysuckle, fir honey, and a matching maritime-fresh note.
    • Taste
Nothing happens in the mouth, malt, dark sweetness, a little old oak cabinet.
    • Finish
In the finish, then flashes again on the freshness. Sweet-dry, I find better again.

Its ok but it would score higher if it was not so dry.
    • Nose
Musty, farmy, with some caramel & fruit.

Dark honey, treacle tart and a little chocolate orange, and a few biscuit notes.
    • Taste
Sweet and orangy with notes of brandy. There is then a wave of dry bitterness and oatmeal.

The palate is quite thin and there are some beef notes in there with a little plum
    • Finish
      Reasonable with a drying finish.

A meaty start on smoked ham. Some peaches and Demerara sugar. Feels thick and a little unsettled. A floral note comes forward once in a while. The longer I nose this the thinner it gets, odd! The mouth feel is good with some tingly wood. Malty sweetness and quite a lot of tannins from the oak. How to put this: Simple and un-challenging. Not that I want to add water the way this is going, but here we go: Same, same but lighter. Any lighter and this would be air…(lame, I know). Tastes really thin now. Mind you, the bitterness is less intense but so is everything else. NO SWIMMING on the Isle of Jura I’m afraid. Medium finish leaving you behind with bitterness on the inside of your cheeks. We have had better and worse before…moving on!

    Taste:

    Finish:
-Short with a strong Alcohol Presence

    O:
This one needs a lot of Oxidation to open up.
Even then , it's a lot more complex in the Aroma, as opposed to the Taste.
I can't totally recommend it, but give it a try (or sample).

  23. Thermidor scored this whisky 77 points Connoisseur

Even at its best this is an uninspiring, uninteresting whisky. It's not particularly hard to tell the sherry is a crutch for stuff that would be flatter than the Great Plains without it.

In a tasting lineup consisting of the current 10yo, Superstition, this one and Berry Bros cask 888, this one struggled to justify its higher price compared to the other two distillery bottlings.

This is the best Jura I have tasted so far. No the wonder they call it Diurichs own.
    • Nose
A very subtle and warm nose of Honey, raisins, green apples, wet grass, cinnamon and golden syrup. superb.
    • Taste
This has a wonderful mouth feel to it, smooth and full bodied but light with caramel toffee on top of all those flavours.
    • Finish
a strong toffee finish to it that warms your cockles. Wonderful.

Cant find what barrels this is from but cant believe its burboun barrel. Great whisky! Warm, pleasant, well rounded. Affordable and underrated.
    • Nose
      Dried plums
    • Taste
Dried plums, nuts, salt and marzipan.
    • Finish
      Long, warm, dry.

  37. Feusi scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Smoke in a sea brize, warm and sweet. Dried fruits, grapefruits and spicy smoke stays in the mouth. A rather long finish with marzipan, smoke and wood. For that price, no comments, buy it.
