The two decided on 4 first-fill ex-bourbon barrels and a freshly-filled ex-sherry hogshead, all of which were filled in 2011 in this Speyside distillery and were allowed to mature until February of this year, before 1,800 bottles with 48 % vol alcohol were bottled. The smoky note usual for Benromach is subtle but still present and harmonises wonderfully with the full-bodied caramel sweetness and vanilla notes from the bourbon casks and the underlying spicy fruitiness from the sherry cask. Quite complex aromas from the different barrels characterize this mature malt very positively, although it was only 11 years in the barrels. Very successful for me.
