    Notes from a blind tasting.

Very varied, with sweet and tart components in alternation.
    • Nose
Sherry, tart, crushed grape seeds, some herbs, brown cane sugar, slightly earthy and musty, after a while also fresh green apple.
    • Taste
Sweet start, then it becomes tart and herbal.
    • Finish
      medium length; changing, beautiful.

    Too dominated by Sherry
Much of the character of Springbank has been lost.
    That's too bad
The 21 year version is much better

On the first approach he was a bit weaker, the second approach showed his better side.
Very good "Daily Dram" if you buy it at RRP price
    Huge amounts of chocolate.

[November 2022] My dealer had a great deal on this bottle to support the drinkers instead of the flippers and investors: He offered this bottle for 150 Euro regular BUT if a customer opens it right in the shop and offers a small dram to someone around the dealer charged just 89 Euro for the bottle. I think this is very smart - drinkers get the stuff for a regular price but greedy investors have to pay the (secondary) market price...

...and I think 70 Euro would be appropriate, but 150 Euro is way too pricey given it inherit (drinking) quality. The taste is okay, but the nose is average only and the mouthfeel/finish is somewhat disappointing.

The colour is very dark at russetmuscat, and the nose offers a modern sherry dominated profile which makes it hard for the malt's aromas to break through. Still the malt is alive (which is good) but the sherry pushes it in a walk-on role only (which is bad). No flaws or off-notes that I can detect, certainly no sulphur (which is good) but I would not call this a harmonious profile (which is bad). Sherry lovers will like this, for sure and I like it too, but it is not my preferred sherried malt profile (which is bad). This nose is okay, but I will not remember it tomorrow morning.
    • Taste
      88 88
The taste stays more on the bitter side of the dram with significant tannins from the sherry cask dominating without being unpleasant. This is a trademark characteristic of very dark sherried malts, and it is not a flaw to me as this is almost unavoidable in heavy sherry maturations and usually the sherry sooths the bitter wood (as it does here too). After some chewing the malt flavours show-up and enrich this profile nicely, this is a fine Springbank taste now.
    • Finish
      85 85
The initial mouthfeel is a little hot and just a little coating, I had a lot of much better Springbank before (actually, most were better). Hence, the finish is a rather short without adding neither significant new impressions nor distracting moments except for some minor cardboardy notes from old wood at the very end (which again come with heavy sherry maturations quite often). This is clearly sub-standard for a Springbank, no doubt. Water does not change a lot in the nose but turns the taste smoother but does not enhance mouthfeel/finish (how could it, these depend on the quality (texture) of the spirit only).

Part of a Springbank vertical tasting.
Felt a bit disappointed by this one. The nose was very closed, or maybe my rhinitis was acting up. Or the hype was to blame, who knows...
    • Nose
Apples, caramel, nuts, peat hiding somewhere in the back, spices, some funk
    • Taste
      Sweet and lightly peppery
    • Finish
Sherry, lightly peppery, slightly bitter, medium-long persistence

    • Nose
Light peat smoke with red berries, citrus fruits, malty sweetness, maritime notes, leather and oak aromas.
    • Taste
Peat smoke with maritime notes, red berries, citrus, honey, leather and oak aromas.
    • Finish
Long with red berries, citrus, maritime notes, peat smoke, honey, leather and oak aromas.

It´s a very good whisky, the Springbank 15. I liked it a lot but for me it lack´s a bit of the Springbank funk which I do get with, for example, bourbon expressions of Springbank.

Again a very good bottling. For me personally, the nuances are a little too intense in the finish (moaning on a high level), otherwise great

I always thought the last 15s were really strong, better than the 18s. I like this one too, but it doesn't impress me as much as its predecessors.

As some have already written here, it's not a sherry monster, but the typical spring bank note is really hardly perceptible in the nose. But that doesn't mean he's run over at all. On the contrary, a nice and round malt. Luckily he still has a few edges left.

A light sweetness and light fruit on the palate, the finish also has a little tartness to offer.

(FRESHLY OPEN): Quite tasty, but rather barrel-heavy. The typical Springbank Funk is not in the foreground, but can be felt in the nose and even more clearly on the palate. Strong start, then beautiful complex and changing aromas. Still a bit sherry-heavy, but Springbank distillate can't be ousted. Tart, sweet, dry, spicy, mineral, nutty, everything is included. I like it very much again after the great 2021 batches.
(EDIT): 6 weeks later with lots of air in the bottle there is a lot more springbank present. The cask is still strong and 2 dominant flavor conglemerates fight for supremacy. Nobody wins, it remains a great balance. I'm inclined to add another point. Who would have thought, Springbank and I haven't exactly been in love with each other until now

Understand Valllado here. He moves on the border. Still delicious.
    • Nose
Tart with a hint of herbs, shop rags, pine needles, brown sugar, over time earthy with a subtle mustiness
    • Taste
forest floor, earthy, felling, herbs, leather, forest honey,

I miss the Springbank DNA, especially in the nose. The sherry casks dominate too much for me, that could be almost anything. Good whisky, no question, but not what I expected
