    Tasting: October 2022
    • Nose
Dark sherry, plums, dried fruits and leather.
    • Taste
Dark honey, spices with black pepper, toffee, nuttiness, some sulfur appears in the background.
    • Finish
Spices, plums, dried fruits and a nice saltiness. After a while a little bitterness from the coffee bean.

    Russet gold.
Nice nose some classic Oloroso nuts. Old oak old leather. Ripe forest fruits. Rubber.
Nice ocean breeze. Smell the ocean when I close my eyes. Very good nose.
Very smooth whisky. Just the right mouth feel gettting some nuts and old gold almond chocolate. Bit of oloroso spice on the tongue.
Pleasant dry mouth aftertaste. Mint and liquorice.
    Very solid malt.

If you like the Bunna 12 you’re going to like this one as well. It’s much more smoother, more sherried notes. It doesn’t have one off note, so smooth. After 2 or 3 dram from the bottle it’s gettin a bit boring, but hey, it’s a quality dram!

    Solid 89 points!

After a lot of back and forth I wanted to try the Bunnahabhain. The 12 is really a good whisky, as only the 18 has to be!
So: split the bottle and go.
Tasted in a nice digital round.
    As references:
    Glendronach 18 (2016, 92 points, - )
Arran 18 (89 points in my subjective score)
Conclusion: The Bunna could not keep up with either of the two candidates. In terms of price, it is in the Glendronach region.
If I took the price into account in the evaluation, it would be worse than the 12 Bunna. Clear.

Similar to 12 years old. But already pregnant with sherry.
Maritime nose, salty sea air with some pepper and dried fruit. Maybe nuts are to be guessed, but you have to make a lot of effort.
      The alcohol is well integrated.
    • Taste
      87 87
Beautiful whisky aged in sherry casks with an additional touch of the sea.
      Not outstanding, but pleasant.
Not as pleasant and round and homely as, for example, a Macallan Edition 6, which I bought for less money.
I expected more. Maybe that's the problem.
At the second tasting, the sherry profile remained rather subtle, so what's left?
    • Finish
      87 87
      Short to medium length.
Slightly salty, a little dried fruity, pleasant oak, does not burn the throat.
For its proud price there is not enough to avoid it.
Too bad, if I had shared a Bunnahabhain 12 and an Arran 18 instead, it would have been cheaper...
