There are few Japanese whiskies I consider a true bargain in these days, but Nikka From the Barrel is one of them. Minimalist packaging, solid 51.4% ABV and the aromatic, gingery aroma with cayenne pepper, orange peel and hints of lemongrass leave a good first impression. On the palate, you get an interesting combination of Yoichi and Miyagikyo flavors: initial spiciness is followed by fruity-sweet notes until a zesty-dry bitterness emerges. The medium finish fades with restrained oak, green tea and a touch of fresh mint. Grab a bottle while you still can!

    Color: dark gold.
    Body: dense, oily.
Nose: slightly pinched, not very intense, but gradually revealing with a lot of colors. A bit alcoholic (barrel fortress makes itself felt). Bourbon exposure is recognized due to the appreciable share of acetone, varnish, oil nuances in the aroma. Honey notes, orange peel, lemongrass, many nutty shades of hazelnuts and spicy shades of fresh bitter pepper (such as cayenne or chili) and cloves, sweet aromas of dried fruits (dried apricots and prunes), plum and cherry jam and fresh mango, toffee, milk chocolate are clearly distinguished. , marzipan and hints of coffee, animal skins and peaty oak notes.
Taste: energetic and burning, intensely tingling oral cavity. Lemon acidity and honey sweetness are quite quickly washed off by a powerful pepper wave with a small presence of peat and oak nuances. The taste continues its development in the direction of vanilla, peach, dried apricots, red apples, berries, coffee and milk chocolate.
Finish: medium-long, warming, but uninteresting, without much development. Dried fruits and vanilla.

At first, a little alcohol, honey, baked apple with cinnamon, cereals, fruits are also present, but less pronounced and in a completely different direction, this is more in the direction of strawberries and blackberries, some soil
    • Taste
Honey, cereals, lemon, apple peel, some earth, some pepper

For the 51.4%, especially before swallowing pretty mild.

Somehow I remembered that better. He has such a sprightly touch for me. Otherwise, something for the besides. I do not want that with whiskey.

  10. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

Lots of wood, more of a bourbon. Coconut, vanilla, herbs. Unfortunately a bit bitter and undefined. Nice side sipper.
