He really suits this type of barrel and this profile - very bright, vanilla, duchesse and apple, powdered sugar, twigs, a combination of yellow ripe and green not yet ripe fruits.

Liquid Treasures has bottled a beautiful Ben Nevis here that continues the typical characteristics of the standard 10-bottle: malty nutty with an incredibly full and oily body. However, it does not display the very (tropical) fruity characteristics of some Nevise distilled in 1996. In view of the price, I would currently prefer the standard 10 (if available). The bottlings from 2017 to 2019 in particular also show notes of older maturation (a proportion of older barrels was probably used here) and in my opinion offer the same (excellent) taste experience for significantly less money.

The typical Ben Nevis note is also present here (slightly slanted/fermented fruit and a musty cellar). Compared to the standard 10s, "old leather armchair" is added here. Then light fruits assert themselves: For me it reminds me of preserved fruits such as apple compote and apricot jam but also of overripe pineapple. A sweetness in the direction of orange marmalade/acacia honey completes the whole thing. Is there a tiny whiff of smoke in here, too, or am I just imagining it?

The first sip is very oily, almost like a spoonful of sunflower oil. Then it becomes intensely malty and nutty, but also slight bitter notes shine through here and there, but never become unpleasant. The longer you give it time in the mouth, the sweeter it gets and some fruity notes emerge: sugar water and light light fruits. But: It is clearly on the malty/nutty side, the fruit is only very weakly present compared to the nose. Those who like fruity whiskys won't necessarily get their money's worth here. Those who like the standard 10s, on the other hand, do!

Very sweet and slightly nutty, hints of light fruit, medium length.
