A fine combination of peat and sherry. Allegedly a teaspooned Ledaig, though most Ledaigs I've come across at that age were way more smoky with messy and bold burning smells.
    • Nose
      87 87
Quite a mild smoke with a faint earthiness and farminess to it. Then loads of sweet PX influenced dark red fruitiness, balanced by a nice layer of well integrated wood spice.
    • Taste
      86 86
Full and thick mouthfeel, syrupy on sweet red berries and slight plum, chocolate, mild coffee bitter. Easily takes some water (but doesn't really need it), which subdues the sherry powered sweetness a little, adding an extra layer of peppery spices.
    • Finish
      87 87
Long: still sweet dark fruits, black liquorice, cocoa bitters, pepper and some charcoal at the back.

Finished the first bottle and yes - good stuff! It can handle a good splash of water and needs to aerate before settling down. But then it gives a solid sherried autumn / winter dram. Burned caramel, dark forest fruits, sweet bbq sauce, macchiato, some farmy aromas and some sulphur (but it adds instead of spoils, at least imo). Solid CQS release and looking forward to part two.

My 3rd CasQueteers bottling which I added to my collection. Apparently a tea-spooned Ledaig; and Ledaig (Tobermory) I embrace as one of my favorite distilleries.

Billy Dram's remark about "give this time in the glass" is spot on. Initially quite dirty, this dram opens up after 30-40 minutes, and surprising fresh peppermint notes are released. Of course in combination with the usual burned BBQ meat and ditto spices. The complete pallet of flavors is served on a PX tray.

This can handle some drops of water. Oily mouthfeel and full bodied arrival. Nice mix of spices, PX notes and again the fresh peppermint touch. Simply great! The burned BBQ flavors are not as dominant as in many Ledaig expressions I tasted till date.
    • Finish
      88 88
Long finish. Quite a uniform dram; flavors of the nose and taste smoothly continue in the finish.

Great CasQueteers bottling at a release price of 45 Euro! No way I am gonna flip this bottle. Will be opened and shared with my son.

Blackberry jam, peat, chalk, raisin, cherry and light sulphur. Water adds orange.
    • Taste
      89 89
Blackberry jam, mocha, date, peat, cherry and caramel.
    • Finish
      88 88
Mocha, dark chocolate, peat, date and blackbery.

    Tasty whiskey.
Peat & sherry is a great combination for me.
As far as I'm concerned, the project has turned out very well.
The 60% ABV is very drinkable without water.

    Nice work CasQueteers.

After opening the bottle you allready smell the PX influence. Give the whisky some time before tasting and the smell gets even better. The nose is powerfull fruity, the peat is not that strong in the nose.
Tasting the whisky it is well balanced, very tastefull and the peat is present, but more in the background. When you really can control yourself and leave the glass for half an our at least, you allmost can not imagine it is a 60% cask strength whisky.
The finish is medium and very pleasant.
Everything together it is a very fine whisky for an attractive price per bottle.
