Turns out it’s a Dailuane – so just say it’s that, or am I being a stick in the mud? It’s a quiz on a bottle. I like quizzes!

N: I was after a wee dessert dram and I’ve found one. Starting off well, it improves from there becoming stickier as it goes.

T&F: The ruby port works beyond the [painting by] numbers, something Scotch Universe seems to have a talent for – especially with the sweet and smoky profiles.

C: A clever pleasure. It won’t change the world though it’s a complete package.

Well, a young Speysider from a distillery from 1852 from the port wine cask, there's nothing wrong with that. However, the first impression is somewhat contradictory and inharmonious. It needs some time in the glass, then the port wine will come through better. All in all, however, this is all too unround for me and does not pick me up.
    • Nose
      83 83
Candy-like sweet and sour, very wine-heavy, spicy malt, light vegetable notes (including baked celery), earthy mushroom notes sprinkled with a little Chester cheese. The alcohol can hardly be felt in the nose.
    • Taste
      84 84
In addition to what the nose has already revealed, the red fruits and the port wine are now coming through more. The alcohol is also more present, especially towards the end. A subliminal musty note emerges.
    • Finish
      82 82
The emerging sharpness of the cask strength determines the transition. Fruit and port are still there at first, but then change into a stale mustiness.
