At first the Miltonduff was very bitter for my taste. With a few drops of water and a little time in the glass, however, it became more and more pleasing.

N: classic old school sherry flavour -rare these days: sweet itense honey, malty..nuts,some Xmas cake, yellow plums, nice wood , beeswax, spicy notes, some Liebstöckl

T: so smooth and sweet ..sticks perfectly to the nose..but more sweet old grappa notes + more spices - Muskat, rosemary...apple cider slightly acidic lovely some

F/D: long sweet great wood notes, spices, menthol, pepper yellow fruits from time to time... sparkling apple cider... drying and wood

This is really cool and surprising...feels overall much older alcohol perfectly integrated...in a blind I would have guessed 18+ CS Highlands/ Speyside not that I could detect a certain distillery / just a perfect cask/ spirit combination bottled at the right time. What a great finish w. 10 years did they switch some casks here???

No longer available - where is the other half of this hogshead?

I approached this whisky with high expectations. Have I been disappointed? NO! This drop makes almost no mistakes and impresses with its mild but fruity-spicy sherry note from smell to finish. Extremely complex and profound for only ten years old. This whisky needs time and a lot of attention. If you give him this he makes a lot of fun.
    • Nose

spicy-fruity sherry influence, sweet, fine grain note, a hint of mint, a few Christmas spices, lemon/or. Orange peel, roasted almonds, slightly floral
    • Taste
      89 89
soft, fruity (orange, tangerine, raisins) and sweeter than expected, very nutty, hints of malt, dark chocolate, spicy, some oak and some vanilla
    • Finish
      90 90
long, warming, fruity bitter orange, whole grain cereals, light and very fine tart notes, slightly sweet, slightly spicy

In this age class one of the absolute surprises of the last years. Tasted blind i have estimated the age to 20 years + as MJ84 did . Fantastic sweetness, fruitiness, brilliant spices and herbs and such a wonderful cask influence. Despite the 52 % Alc. Vol. it is so smooth and mouth coaxing. Brilliantly quaffable!!! A few drops of water make for a further increased oily and sweet fruitiness. Fantastic. Only 10 years of age !? Definitely an insider´s tip....

Blind tasting of 5 drams, surprise of the evening. Sherry notes very nicely integrated, very seductive dram with a nice note of wax. Typed on +- 20 years and Clynelish or Ben Nevis, slightly wrong...:) Still a bit in the sample, let's see if it is confirmed.

I'll be honest (why not?): 115€ for a 10y MacDuff? That's a statement, and the Whisky will have to be very good!
    • Nose
      Hmmm... interesting.
Nose : warm but light Sherry, sweet rye bun. Lovely.
    • Taste
Very much in line with the nose: sweet rye, slight candle wax and warm, light Sherry notes. Surprisingly round mouthfeel.
    • Finish
Long, and very consistent with nose and initial taste. Which is good news, trust me.
Could have been a 15y Ben Nevis if you ask me which is making the price much more to my liking.
