    Ardbeg Ardcore Comittee Release.
If you like smokey peated whiskies this one is worth trying. It is not a peat monster like some of the Ardbegs but might be a little too much for those just getting into peated whiskies.
    • Nose
There is some light smokiness on the nose, along with citrus and vanilla notes. Adding a little water brings out the vanilla more and the smoke is just there in the background.
    • Taste
On the palate the smoke really starts the arrival. It's much more pronounced on the palate than on the nose. There are some earthy peat notes beneath the campfire ash. By the midpalate the citrus fruits appear but they are dominated by the smoke.
    • Finish
Medium finish with lingering smoke, black pepper, brine and some sweetness. Although smokey it does not leave the palate dry. A pleasant sipping whisky.

Rather dissatisfied with this offering compared to other Ardbeg bottlings. Missing the classic campfire notes. Nose is salty, vanilla fudge with hints of malt, iodine and lemon zest. Palate is mostly sharp spice with some vanilla, lemon and ash.

Ardbeg Ardcore Committee Release, 50.1% alc. Original bottling (2022). Extension: no information

Nose: Ash and motor oil meet dark biscuits and delicate vanilla. The peat smoke is reminiscent of charcoal briquettes and burning flotsam, but farther away. I find a sliced lemon with a hint of rosemary, otherwise this Ardbeg is surprisingly reserved.

Palate: Here Ardbeg finally comes to the fore! Typical sweetness, very creamy with lots of peat smoke and citrus fruits, plus aniseed and rosemary. Milk chocolate and the dark biscuits also come to the fore again, I also find forest honey, cold smoker and ash.

Finish: Medium length and sweet, ash and some pepper, lime and malt.

Conclusion: smoke with sweetness, easy and good to enjoy, anything but complex. An honest Ardbeg. 84/100 points (2022)
