Started really great but couldn't catch up in the end - still very good overall

Extremely citrusy, lemony, smoked fish, meaty, ham & bacon, bonfire, little peaty too - excellent indeed!

Punchy, oily, little sweetness, peat and smoke, little lemony, more seafood, seashells, seaweed, salty - very good

Long, warm, little floral, old books

    Colour:
    Light gold
    Nose:
Leather, vanilla, wax and lemon. In addition, there is pure peat, some lead and coal, some honey and sweet syrup, some smoke and subtle wood, some echoes of charred barrels, some apple aroma, some BBQ - something very good!
    Taste:
Thin start, but building with a huge volume of peat. Peat? What is peat? THAT here is peat! A peat board before the Lord! In addition, sweet smoke, apple, phenols, vanilla, wood and always peat - simply brilliant!
    Finish:
Very long - seamless transition to the finish, same intensity, same quality, same ingredients, same PEAT content. The tongue retains this flavor forever - unique!
    Comment:
A peat board that is unparalleled in the combination of intensity and quality. The combination of old Ardbeg malt and peat will always be pretty brilliant for us. Here in the finish even 94+ are achieved.

A wonderful old style ardbeg, I think I would have rated it higher if I hadn’t had #574 before.

  6. Ralph Hiltrup did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

"A very rare 1980s bottling of Ardbeg 1973, bottled at 46% by Glasgow`s Moncrieffe & Co. for the Italian market."
