Nowadays it seems like they just add 1 liter of sherry to a virgin oak cask and call it sherry cask matured. The sherry and the sweetness are there, but the oak sherrycask itself doesn't seem to leave a mark anymore.
This Bennachie brings back memories of the old days when making whisky was still an art and good casks where still available.
We sometimes lose ourselves in paying ridiculous amounts of money for single malts from the eighties and nineties, and forget those fabulous whiskys also went into fabulous blends which are still affordable. This Bennachie is one of them. For around 100,- a nobrainer!
Very enjoyable, every day dram with a bit of a short finish.
