Fresh and fruity. The fruit of the orchard. Green apple. Vanilla underneath. There is a certain creaminess. Citrus. Lemon. A bit of cinnamon. A shy trace of mint.

Light spicy at first. Spices. White pepper and cinnamon. A slight warm-up. Caramel, honey, and vanilla. Peach traces. Dark chocolate. A bit of oak bitterness. Medium-length finish. Maybe even medium-short.

    Golden Delicious
Oh, look, a golden oldie. One of the few official releases from Linkwood, that work horse from Diageo. White Horse, Haig, Dimple, Bells and many more blends thank much of their character from this single malt from Speyside. I will try an older releases of the official 12 years old that was released under the famous Flora & Fauna label.

Spring fresh nose on Golden Delicious apples, vanilla and sweet malt. Hint of marzipan and a bit of lemon. Very simply, very accessible but under the right circumstances – bathing in the sun on a terrace during a lovely spring day, for example – quite good.

The body is rather light and on the palate it becomes sweeter still than the nose already announced. Next to the apples and marzipan – which return – I also get some apricots and peach, while candied ginger gives it a bitter prickle. Subtle and summery. Nothing wrong with that.

The finish is lightly peppered and mildly drying.

A somewhat underrated malt in my opinion. I quite enjoyed this. Thanks, Arno.

L-code: L7116CS000 add bot was too lazy ...
    Glass: Blender's
Aromatics: let stand for 15 minutes. Citrus peels, vanilla and sweet garbage on cakes on top, flowers and juicy apples and pears
Taste: waxed, fruit, apple juice and lemon, watery and alcoholic ...
Finish: medium, pleasant with a bitterness from lemon peels
It’s good to start with this - a light taste without pressure ...

A fine whisky, but a bit dime-a-dozen. I believe the word is inoffensive?
    • Nose
Pretty straightforward citrus and vanilla notes, followed by dry apple cider and marzipan. Finally a touch of damp rocks.
    • Taste
Sweet with a honey and vanilla influence and some stone fruits, but the dry and crisp apple cider is still here as well. Soft and subtle spiciness, mainly ginger and white pepper.
    • Finish
Dry, somewhat spicy. Finally soft orchard fruits.

A bit austere and dusty, it is not very expressive to the nose. There is a little oak, and fruits too discreet in the background. In the mouth, very banal, shot of Speyside with bonus alcohol that hangs a little. Dispensable.

    Enthusiasm 2/5

Very nice sweetness rises in the nose, cotton candy, behind it are sugared fruits, green apple, pineapple, pear, some tart herbs.

In the mouth, however, quite sour, the fruit looks immature, some peat, a hint of meat broth, short finish, artificial flowery sweetness.

Rather a nice summer whisky. For Linkwoods I miss the comparison, as they should be, but this is a fine gentleman who moves discreetly in the background. Not spectacular, but noble.

    Tasted 03/04/2016 in a Flora & Fauna line-up.
    • Nose
Oily, sweet; as if finished on a white wine cask. Apples, marzipan.
    • Taste
A bit astringent, spicy but sweet; strawberry yoghurt. Oaky woodiness. Difficult to pinpoint.
    • Finish
Nice finish at the back of the mouth, stays prickly at the tip and sides of the tongue. Anise coming forward, as well as wood.

  39. Snerik scored this whisky 85 points Expert Junior

Well, this is a real summer dram, in every way. Mostly given it’s very citrusy character. So… It’s the Riesling of whiskies? Tasted April, 2016 at Bow Bar, Edinburgh.
    • Nose
The nose is very expressive, easy and fresh! Notes of green apples, honey, pears, fresh lemon juice and white flowers. It’s not that it’s a delicate or powerless nose; it’s just a bit different and easy-going compered to a sherry monster.
    • Taste
Again, fresh and acidic. Apples, citrus and pear. Very crisp!
    • Finish
The finish is nice and easy, medium long. Melon, white flowers, pear and loads of honey. Pleasant indeed.

My first dram from the Flora & Fauna series. Very tasty, but does not really stand out from the whisky world. Something is missing that would make the Malt really interesting. Maybe just something too round in the whole.
    • Nose
Flower meadow, perfume, sweet cereals roasted in honey, light and round, generally fresh, not always baked baked sourdough bread, sweet bright fruity come in the back (association with warm banana)
    • Taste
Very light on the tongue, slightly watery mouthfeel, persistent sweet, baked apple with almond filling, sweetish wood
    • Finish
Relatively unspectacular but balanced, oak is supportive, drier than expected, some tongue coating, nuttiness remains behind

n: delicate, slightly grassy nose with malt sugar, cereals and roasted nuts.
very light sherry influence (but I might be mistaken), hints of vanilla and
        sunflower oil
t:  slightly oily mouthfeel, again very round and delicate. very much the nose I´d
        say.
I love the mellow body and the harmonious combination of the grassy and the malty-spicy
        elements.
    f:  medium length, very clean
comments: a lovely summer´s whisky or a perfect high noon dram.
                      very easy going.

It’s a young and vibrant single malt with a surprising vegetal twist. The Linkwood expressions I tasted so far where all pretty sherry influenced so this is a nice change. But having said that, I miss some depth in this one. It’s not challenging at all. All in all not the best Linkwood I had.

    • Nose
A subtle, modest, slightly sour and delicate whisky with aromas of hay, grass, fennel, acacia honey, hint of lemon oil, grapes, appel, pear, grains, barley sugar, butter, olive oil, floral tones (dandelion, elderflower), almond milk, bouquet garni, dry white wine, cedar wood and fresh oak.
    • Taste
A soft, balanced and uncomplicated whisky with aromas of malt, grains, green tea, vegetal, floral tones (dandelion and chamomile), soft citrus tones, red apples, a hint of minerals, soft oak, hint of beeswax, ginger, white pepper, fennel seeds, bitter orange peel, figs and subtle honey.
    • Finish

A particular and excellent Scotch, unique maybe for the multiplicity of flavors and smells and for the evolution of the distillate as well.                                                                      Just few words to describe it: AN AMAZING CREATIVE ONE.
    • Nose
Vegetables attack: asparagus, sage, cut hay, camomille flowers, a particular beginning so, then another evolution with fresh butter smell, liquorice, cedar and orange rind.
    • Taste
Sherry, orange jam, black pepper, chili pepper and then a radical transformation, mineral flavors, copper, olive oil, a lot of wood and finally juniper berries.                       With the addiction of water the mineral tastes gets longer.                                          Viscous compound.
    • Finish
Long and persistent with memories of roast beef, juniper berries, honey and vanilla.

Whole milk chocolate first? Cool. Little sherry, then some grapes, but it smells really great. Something gracious and floral but fresh.
    • Taste
Sweet, a little bit spicy, something tickling on the tongue. Here you can see the barrel more clearly.
    • Finish
      Long and classic.

N: Rich, thick sweet malt with Christmas-y fruits, burning frankincense, cloves, ripe bananas, BBQ charcoal notes, orange juice.
T: Ooh - Spice, spring water, sweet and amazingly EVEN with salty bitter lemon notes, its ever so polite -  "After you" says the spice to the sweetness.
F: Yes! Beautiful lingering finish. Bitter salt has the last word but the malt carries on right through. Water separates the salt from the sweet like a Left to Right stereo spread, but then its much hotter. Later, the bitter saltiness is stronger, later still softening to a sweeter, milder development and finish.
C: Very good, more Linkwoods please. Complex precocious young malt. Nose of a Glendronach, taste of Old Pulteney and the finish changing over time.  Bargain for £41 [2013].

    Scores a C+
