It is always a matter of taste for the finished malts that are too dark. The taste was way too overloaded for me, the finish wasn't there.

Was chosen as the tasting winner among 14 participants in the whisky club and was highly praised, although the smoke that gave it its name was quite economical in this series. Competed against the original Highland Park 10 year old bottling, aged 2009-2020 and 66.5% ABV, and won quite clearly. The 1st fill sherry finish from the Whitlaw gave it significantly more depth than the 10 years in the refill sherry butt from the original. Highly recommended and worth every euro.

So much alcohol that the hair on your nose burns off, even water doesn't really help, it's not fun at all (tried on three different evenings, Glencairn)

Creamy, alcohol sharpness, smoke, sweetish, spicy
    slightly astringent, no complexity

    Medium length, sweetish, spicy

If I were to consider the price: lower 70s range

Nose: medium-strength sherry with non-acidic red fruits, flatbread with charred black cumin, dried goat meat, something floral, very light detergent in the background. The smoke is subtle, but quite noticeable by HP standards.

Palate: Snappy but not overly sherried on the other hand. HP notes are very present. Acacia flowers, dry smoke, burnt herbs and black cumin. Rather dry, but not astringent.

Finish: medium length with a strong black cumin note and light cigarette smoke.

I have to say: I like the whisky. Impetuous, but not over-finished on the other side.

Nice single cask from Whic but don't buy it overpriced in the market

Smoky dried fruit with a subtle hint of citrus, apricots, bacon-wrapped dates and salted lemons. A full, heavy sherry nose that never gets boring

Oily and slightly numbing, while being slightly astringent but with fruity notes. The alcohol is noticeable but still pleasantly spicy

      Medium length, flavorful and delicious.

    Big, robust, grand malt.

The first time I get the Dark sherry note as sweet cherries. Very nice smoke follows.

A symphonie of tastes really attacks you. There is a sturdy oloroso sherry backbone, then dry wood fire smoke closes in. Sweet-dry mouthfeeling. Very cpmplex, the sherry not drenching the dram
    • Finish
      88 88
Medium length dry sweet, not bitter.
