Scotch Universe is a series by Michel Reick that only names the distilleries in encrypted form. This is a Teaninich, one of the many Diageo Distilleries, of which there is no core range, but at most the Flora & Fauna bottling. There are always bottlings from the independent bottlers and the distillery is appreciated. This Teaninich has a post-ripening in 1st fill PX sherry hogshead, but is still not overly dark, but richly golden.

The taste is less fruity, the whisky is tart to dry with light wood aromas and dark chocolate. The PX cask didn't leave a sticky sweetness, but rather dry notes with herbs and wood. This isn't palatable at first sip - but builds into a tasty, somewhat challenging dram that's not overly dominated by the cask. The flavors are creamy, crumble cake with plums and curd cream.

Tart chocolate with a woody plum filling and some marzipan - sounds strange? Is good …
Michel Reick doesn't make mainstream whiskys and they don't always mature in good wood. This does not come from one of the typical PX barrels that are on the road today. But it's ok like that. This whisky has rough edges - that makes it interesting and distinguishes it from many others. A good whisky.
