This is a real Jekyll & Hyde malt, parts of it are really nice, but other aspects bring it down.
The high average score really flatters this one but , still a nice dram but far from a 92 point average for me.
Powerful sherry, various fruit jams, polish, faint hints of menthol, possibly a little peat and rhubarb
I think water will open this up nicely but at the moment as air gets to it, medicinal notes emerge
If you put a lid on the glass and leave it for a few minutes there are some floral notes and here's the thing, it also smells like an aged bourbon yet this is a sherry butt?
Jammy, fruity but what is that strange taste on the bitter side, it is like an unripe gooseberry and it is not good, there is also something like plastic in the nix, not a great start.
It does improve but there is a definite off note like polish or something chemical, I cannot put my finger on it , it is certainly drying.
You need to give this time, because it has a massive spicy kick, some nice fruit flavours but there is also a like an unripe fruit taste , bitter red apples skins perhaps that bring it down
Drying, on biscuit and faint hints of custard, not the longest but it remains spicy with that off note
Again this smells like a bourbon, even more so with a little water,
Water has smoothed this out and the fruit is even more prevalent but still there is a slight plastic/industrial taste.
