A Deanston, finished by Michel Reick in The Old Friends series in PX Sherry Hogshead. This results in a rich, natural gold tone. The whisky costs €85 in May 2022. For a 12-year-old whisky, that's a steep price, which unfortunately seems to be normal at the moment. On the other hand, this does not make the whisky a hit, so that it is still readily available six months after its release.
Fruits with chocolate and some cinnamon. The whisky is fruity with ripe fruits, which still have a slightly sour and fresh note. Ripe apples, pears and plums and a few grapes covered in warm chocolate. The alcohol is slightly refreshing but not noticeable, there is some wood in the background.
The taste is dominated by milk chocolate with a few tart tones. The whisky is soft on the tongue, a little water softens it. The fruits are clearer on the nose than on the palate.
Chocolate aromas also remain in the mouth in the aftertaste, wood is very subtle, the whisky does not develop great complexity.
A delicious Highland whisky that is not dominated by the PX and still has a nice sweetness. The fruit is more present on the nose than on the palate, which is a shame. It's a clean, drinkable whisky, but ultimately lacks that special kick that could justify a price tag of over €80. So it's another tasty whisky that's overpriced.
