[November 2022] A quick review of a sample...

...which is displays the delicious Tomatin profile perfectly, but it owns a rather weak texture only. Hence both mouthfeel and finish are sub-standard (compared to the usual excellent Tomatin texture).

The colour is pale gold, and the nose offers a subtle and delicate profile of fresh fruits, honeys, spring flowers and spicy wooden notes. All is nicely balanced, and I like all the aromas I can detect. This is a trademark Tomatin nose and guess why blenders love this dram...
    • Taste
      90 90
The taste is delicious on barley sugars, home-grown fruits and honeys with spices (vanilla, peppers, ginger) and appropriate wooden notes. Again, all is balanced and without any flaws. Guess why blenders like Tomatin...
    • Finish
      86 86
The dram arrives warming but without the powerful coating effects Tomatin is famous for (so blenders will not like the texture of this dram). Hence the finish is rather short and adds no new impressions, neither good nor bad. Water just flattens the dram.

As a self-confessed sherry whisky fan, bourbon whiskys are of course usually my second choice. I was all the more excited about the 21er Tomatin, which I treated myself to thanks to a special offer at the "Dutchman". I really like the typical bourbon cask appearance here, the aromas come across very well, the spice is relatively subtle in the background and still provides a sufficiently strong counterpoint. Here, too, I am more than impressed by the taste and above all because of the PLV. Where else can you get a 21 year old single malt for this price these days? Not only because of that, but also because of the delicious taste, the good balance and the finish, there are 91 points from me today.

Wow, sweetness slaps you in the face, honey, vanilla, citrus notes, apple pie, fresh croissants, later pears. After a while, this is accompanied by a very subtle note of herbs and wood. Fruitiness and sweetness are already a small experience here, even for a lover of sherry whiskys.

The sweetness continues on the tongue. Here the 46% seem to be a little better integrated than in the 18er. Nothing tickles or presses on the tongue. Honey, vanilla, citrus fruits, a hint of beeswax and a light herbal note are the flavors here. Here, too, the flow of saliva is properly stimulated. After some chewing in the mouth I feel a slight hint of an old cognac and light woody notes that provide a nice delicate counterpoint to the sweetness. Well done.

Again, the second sip is significantly more intense than the first. All the sweet flavors come through a little more clearly now. Herbs are also more present here now. Here, too, I would classify the finish as medium-long. The mouthfeel is almost perfect. Sweetness, malt sugar and the influence of the barrel are very balanced here. Fortunately, the sweetness prevails in the end. I like it very much.

Fruity, slight confectionary, vanilla, lightly tart, lightly sour, mellow. Really nice and tasty.

Wonderful fruit notes with some honey and heather.
A little mineral and a breeze of fresh Highland air

Wonderfully balanced fruit and wood notes. Plus citrus and honey.
      Absolutely mild on the palate.
You don't notice the 46% at all.

A nice long finish with notes of wood and malty sweetness.
      Wonderful
