Great malt where the smoke works really well with the EX-BC character.
    • Nose
      89 89
First impression on the nose is malt and slightly floral notes of hay. In addition, of course, the smoke, which only knows how to integrate better with more time in the glass and is no longer so dominant. The smoke is reminiscent of campfires. Slightly greasy with a BBQ touch. The smoke is framed by vanilla and slightly sour citrus fruits of grapefruit, lemons and some currants. Then light maritime aromas are added. salty olives, fresh bread dough, butter biscuits, toffee. The nose gains significantly with more time! Class!
    • Taste
      88 88
A slightly oily, very fresh start on the palate, which is predominantly characterized by the sour citrus notes. The smoke tastes a bit more like ash here, kind of cool and dry. Alcohol seems very well integrated and provides a warming mouthfeel without burning too much. Oak spice and some ginger ensure a nice, not too obtrusive sharpness. Then smoked bacon in the background, again those salty aromas, yeast dough, vanilla,

Medium-length finish, the smoke seems a bit more dominant here, leaving other aromas behind. Getting a little drier, greasy, lemons, malty sweetness and slightly tart notes.

A really tasty whisky. The active bourbon barrel and the brand harmonize perfectly. It was really fun tasting it.
    • Nose
Beautiful maritime notes. Stormy pebble beach covered with seaweed. Eggnog sponge cake. Dried Mulberries. fruit toffee. Steaks marinated in herbs and tart mango chutney. Nice campfire smoke. A few floral notes are also there. Removes citrus.
    • Taste
fudge Burnt marshmallows. Quince jelly on buttered toast. The smoke is sweeter in the mouth than it is in the nose. Lots of vanilla. Then it gets spicier. Linseed oil. venison gravy. Burnt herbs.
    • Finish
Bit of liquorice. bergamot. The smoke becomes drier, herbal and ashy.

There are actually still positive surprises in the market. this could be a distillate from the 70's. Excellent!

It has an oily viscosity and its bouquet is relatively intense. I have aromas of maritime peat smoke, citrus, honey sweetness, vanilla and ash. Moderately complex. A good balance between sweetness and dryness in terms of taste. He has clearly perceptible alcohol and a relatively heavy body.

    Nose:
Very maritime, seaweed chips. Charcoal smoke underscored by cookie dough and vanilla. Butter croissant. Baked apple, pear, peach.

    Mouth:
    Oily mouthfeel, well integrated alcohol.
Here, too, maritime with nori leaves, vanilla, sweet pastries. The fruit from the nose doesn't come through as strongly, some apple. almonds and olive oil.

    Finish:
Medium length, vanilla sauce in the ashtray. Green olives

    90/100

    Conclusion:
Really nice malt. The barrel has worked well, very strong vanilla and pastry notes with subtle fruit and a strong maritime touch. He also tolerates water well.
If I had to look for a flaw: the citrusy, sparkling side of the distillery is quite subtle.

    EYE/NOSE
The natural color of the malt is pleasing, but almost leaves you a little perplexed. The strong amber tone with the slightly reddish touch inevitably reminds me of red wine influences.
On the nose, the malt convinces
first moment. Smoke and peat lead, as might be expected. And yet the smoke seems neatly integrated. Not overly medicinal as one might expect. The nature of the smoke is more reminiscent of a large wood fire in the distance. It is embedded in a coat of vanilla pulp and light fruits - a little citrusy. Then some salt and notes vaguely reminiscent of freshly baked bread. Very intense, first-class fragrance.

    PALATE
Oily, decidedly fresh, lemony style, as one often finds in cask-strength Port Ellen malts. No cowshed, but ash, almost chalky notes. Very balanced and as powerful as it is lively. The alcohol pushes powerfully and warms without burning. In the background then citrus zest, smoked sausage, cold-pressed olive oil, bread aromas, again a little salt. Great profile.

    FINISH/CONCLUSION
Long-lasting. Fat plumes of smoke continue to envelop all other notes. I have smoked bacon. Afterwards it becomes mineral, slightly citrusy and almost a bit Mediterranean, with a fine malty sweetness, tart almonds and green olives, as well as spices that characterize the aftertaste. Great, absolutely flawless malt, from the nose to the finish. Towards the end it seems a bit dry. The circle to the red wine storage and finishes closes. Qualitatively on par with the great 14-year-old Old Particular 'Eagle', which is of course characterized by the sherry casks used and is therefore fundamentally different from our current test person.

SMELL very strong with peat, smoke, strong caramel and toffee, smoked ham, bacon, salty sea breeze with seaweed
    • Taste

... powerful and intense with cigars, BBQ, medicinal, iodine, again bacon. with seaweed luscious smoke from the fireplace.

... long, cold smoke, bacon, bitter orange jam and tobacco. The empty glass smells sweet like milk chocolate.
