Redbreast 15 years, 46% alc. Original bottling (2021). Ageing: Oloroso sherry casks and bourbon casks
Nose: Spicy blackberry jam in oatmeal, pleasant sweetness. I also find pancakes with blueberries and maple syrup candied apples and a hint of tropical fruit. Oak wood aromas remain discreet and warming in the background.
Palate: Here, too, blackberry jam and cereal aromas, but also significantly more spiciness than on the nose. Sugar beet, maple syrup, caramel and milk chocolate, I taste slightly burnt plum cake and cinnamon, there is also a pinch of colored pepper and cloves.
Finish: Long, blood oranges and blackberries, gooseberries, almonds and then lots of oak.
Conclusion: The tannins of the oak barrels come into their own with this Redbreast, the leap from the 12-year-old is enormous. A really nice whiskey. 87/100 points
