Tasty dram. But not special. Some watery palates are disadvantages. There's no dramtic feelings even this dram contains various casks.
    • Nose
      88 88
Raisin, blueberry jam, little bit of acid like grape juice
    • Taste
      85 85
Medium spicy, grape juice and blueberry. Creamy and some dark chocolates. It feels watery and it's a huge deduction point.
    • Finish
      87 87
Similar with nose, added some tobacco. Medium long.

The aroma is reminiscent of ElsBurn Warfare in its density, but not as sharp. Lots of dried fruits, vanilla, sherry, rum chocolates.
On the palate you can feel a fresh oak barrel, burnt sugar, a little skin, aged dessert wine, cognac notes, black pepper, dark chocolate.
The aftertaste is longer than average, astringent, dessert.
    Cool whisky!

Very bold, big sweet and spicey profile. Not sure I could handle more than one a night, but it definitely hits a spot I didn’t know I was missing.

Dark - brown sugar, rye bread, prune, molasses, sweet sherry
    • Taste
      89 89
Sweet - grape jelly, over ripe tropical fruits, bold baking spice, coffee grounds, red pepper
    • Finish
      88 88
The sweet and spice combines, red pepper jelly with a cup of coffee

  8. Boletus did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

A whisky loaded to the brim with cask aromas, which works surprisingly well for me here. In many cases, I have my problems with these cask-raised malts, because you don't notice the actual distillate anymore. However, the characterful spirit of ''Amrut'' can at least hold its own against the very active hybrid barrels and prevents a one-sided result. An impressively complex and intense experience that I don't need in my glass too often, but have enjoyed very much.
    • Nose
Very full and expressive, many dark fruits such as prunes and morello cherries, dried orange peels, dates and dried figs, dark baked fruit bread with raisins and dried apricots and nutmeg, further fruit aromas can be found in the background, but more tropical fruity with passion fruit and mango, molasses and Burnt caramel provides the basic sweetness, the strong oak comes across as a bit charred, kola nut, a tiny trace of graphite dust, lots of cocoa, freshly ground roasted coffee, spices become clearer, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, has almost something of a Christmas spiced chocolate, the ripe effect and complex aroma is very finely rounded off by gentle vanilla
    • Taste
An enormously varied play of aromas begins in the mouth, every second it changes from dark fruitiness with tropical touches to spicy and slightly charred oak with a pronounced chocolatey side without much bitterness, kola nut, minimal graphite, raisins as well as prunes and black cherries are the fruity pioneers, the basic sweetness comes from dates and molasses, passion fruit and mango flash through again and again, dried orange peel, the mouthfeel is heavy and oily, although the lively and malty distillate noticeably spices things up, with a little stay in the mouth the gas pedal is pressed again, pipe tobacco, one large amounts of cocoa and roasted coffee are formed, vanilla caresses the palate before the spice reserves with lots of allspice as well as a good deal of nutmeg and cinnamon are finally emptied
    • Finish
A long finish follows, the oak with its thin layer of charcoal now leaves a few bitter traces, but the bitterness remains bearable, little sweet cola, walnuts burnt in places during roasting, a large piece of dark chocolate with a very high cocoa content melts in the mouth, "Java" coffee, tobacco, overdrifting into strong dark aromatics is prevented by the constantly present fruit aromas consisting of plums and black cherries, raisins, and the tropical nuances of mango and passion fruit are again hinted at, spices such as laurel, nutmeg and allspice guide the aftertaste, which reminds me of a mixture of hearty venison gravy and ''Red Bull'' cola with cherry flavor

Somehow Christmassy in the nose. Lots of oak. English fruit pudding, raisins, vanilla, some exotic coconut. Ripe dark fruit. chocolate sweetness.
    • Taste

On the palate first fruit jam with spices. Mouth-filling soft with neat oak. Vanilla and the dried fruits, a hint of smoke. A little sharpness. Spicy. Coffee.
    • Finish

Long, strong aftertaste with predominantly sweet aromas. Fruits are slowly fading away, some mint?

Without a question, an outstanding representation of what India has to offer in terms of world-class whisky. Had this been bottled at a slightly higher proof, closer to its barrel entry proof, I would have given it a perfect 100 without hesitation. Other than that, I have no complaints about this whisky. A truly exceptional pour.

Coffee, burnt brown sugar, caramel, vanilla, chocolate, mint, eucalyptus, cinnamon buns, red delicious apples and their skins, cinnamon hearts, candy canes, and some oak. I think what the Frankenstein casking does is impart equal influence of all 4 parts of the finishing barrel, with a bourbon backbone.

Nose: Sherry, gummy spice, some coffee

Taste: Fairly full-bodied. Certainly sweetness appears with some spices. Where and where not chocolate.

Rating: 88 | 100 Medium long finish with light spices.

Coffee, tobacco, burn sugar, marzipan, dark fruits, rubber, intense but balanced, quite nice

  25. etwa77 scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

without water: too much oak and the rest seems over-imposed on a canvas of burning spirit (84)

with water: loses power and personality, becomes more cloying and bitter (82)

Oaky, fruity (mostly red), coffey and chocolaty, all on full blast. What a intense whisky! As intense as some younger Glenfarclas Family Cask. I like it. Ill be looking out for other stuff from that series.

First dominant oak and coffee. It takes a little patience to get past this oak wall. Then there are many different juicy fruits. Berries, cherry, plum, raisins, papaya.
    • Taste

Pretty spicy-herbal, light smoke. Some pepper, lots and lots of oak. Chocolate with a high cocoa content. Mocha.

Fruits return and complement the spicy palate aromas. Intensive.

As intense as they come (bar some Kavalan Solist), but some incredibly clever whisky engineering is going on here. Well done!
    • Nose
Intense yet reasonably balanced. Notes of strong coffee, treacle, tobacco and orange marmelade, accompanied by brown sugar, a hit of soy and hoisin as well. Modern whisky with an old school feel and a slight acidic touch.
    • Taste
A little less creamy/cloying than expected. Soft oak spices, burnt toast, some resin and dark chocolate as well. Water brings out mint, coffee grounds and tobacco.
    • Finish
Molasses, spices and nougat, with finally a whisper of bitter chocolate. Long.

A really good whisky that, like the Fusion, is a bit difficult to grasp. It somehow tastes good, harmonious, with a certain depth, but it is reluctant to release its individual aromas. A good dram nonetheless.
    • Nose
Balanced, sherry, dried fruit, oak, spicy wood, harmonious, dark fruit, spiciness, compact and very tasty.
    • Taste
At first glance surprisingly a little sharp with alcohol, undifferentiated, difficult to grasp. Oak, orange, a little pepper, more fruit, but nothing that jumps out at you, very intertwined.
    • Finish
The finish is only medium, difficult to analyze, very compact, complex, dense, but good.

Fantastic new AMRUT, which bring full flavour, ripe fruits, dark espresso, leather, roasted bread and a heavy punch of oak. if you are into this tropical matured sherry monsters like Kavalan, Yamazaki or Amrut - this is the stuff you will adore.

  41. SherryDrone scored this whisky 82 points Member Senior

Amrut spectrum first edition 005 was a wonderful dram. Lots to like about it. The 2nd one was not as great IMHO.

This new one was launched in late 2021.

Colour - Dark Amber (Not sure if this is artificially coloured but the label doesn’t say it is naturally coloured)

Nose - A nice caramel malty note that quickly marries a strong oakiness. Vanilla. Vanilla cake. Uhmm.. I was expecting a rum raisin & dark dry fruit note and so this ‘vanilla’ note is a bit surprising. There’s a bit of sticky toffee pudding but again overwhelming oakiness. There’s a bit of dry sherry influence with dates and spices but appear very diluted.

Palate - There’s so much vanilla. The usual ‘spice’ note in Amrut does exists but it’s not as intense. Bitter oakiness dominate. Almost like a concentrated version of Benadryl. A creamy feel in the mouth. The ‘sherry’ note on the nose does not translate to a sherry bomb on the palate. An oaky citrus notes that reminds me of Amrut fusion X. Given the colour & nose, I was expecting a lot of dry fruits and warm spices but palate is a lot creamier with vanilla and oakiness.

Finish - Long. A bitter woody & winey note. Some citrus note emanates but overshadowed by oakiness. Mild toffee pudding note. A distant subtle smoke but mild.

There’s a strong oakiness. The palate does not reflect any strong sherry influence. Or Amrut’s distillery character.
