Bushmills or Teeling. Teeling probably sells very little to UAs. So I would appreciate Bushmills. But it could also be Cooley from John Teeling.

With water it is quite a pleasant young whisky. Otherwise, at least on the palate, it is a bit too alcoholic-spicy for me.

Light and soft on the nose. Malty, grain, muesli, sweet rice pudding with cinnamon and some fruit. Vanilla, lemons, some apricots, melon, peach. Exotic fruits are in the foreground here. The alcohol is already very present and provides a cooling, sometimes slightly stinging feeling.
    • Taste

Strong, fulfilling start. Alcohol is dominant at first and creates a lot of steam! Spicy chili, somewhat bitter oak spice, fruit notes emerge somewhat hesitantly.
With water: Softer, more elegant approach. Cereals and malt appear, as well as fruit components. Pineapple, peach, slightly sour citrus aromas. Vanilla and caramel provide more sweetness. Some milk chocolate and a few roasted aromas of nut and almond appear in the background. I like it that way.
    • Finish
      85 85
Relatively short finish, mint, light fruit notes, slight bitterness, vanilla,

A nice whisky, but the Irish character is difficult to discover because of the Calvados.
    • Nose
      86 86
Vanilla, very sweet, citrus, melon, malty. The alcohol is very present and sticks in the nose.
    • Taste
      86 86
Strong alcohol punch, fruity, malty and spicy. Also vanilla, honey and citrus.
    • Finish
      85 85
The aftertaste is short and spicy. Vanilla and a nice bitterness.

From time to time Marco Bonn also bottled something from Ireland. This is a 9 year old whisky from an unknown distillery with a finish in Calavados casks. Teeling, Bushmills – who knows? At least Great Northern isn't... Pale gold in color that goes with the apple.
    • Nose
First vanilla on the nose, then sweet apple rice with some cinnamon, herbs and fresh mint. Fruit and vanilla with spices - is that Irish DNA? Right off the bat I wouldn't identify the whisky as Irish.
    • Taste
The alcohol is strong, a few drops of water shouldn't hurt. With water it becomes softer and sweeter, toffee and caramel, buttery scotch and shortbread. The whisky is quite smooth and elegant, doesn't really match the pumpkin monster with dagger and skull on the label. Suitable for teatime in the afternoon.

Without water, it's more crunchy and shows more woody aromas, but it's too spicy to be really enjoyable. With careful dilution, a few nice marzipan-chocolate notes remain at the end, but overall I don't think the alcohol is integrated that well.
    • Finish
The aftertaste is not very pronounced, is quickly gone and there is still some alcoholic burn with a hint of apple rice in the mouth.

I could not identify the whisky directly as Irish, the fruitiness remains indifferent, the alcohol is a bit too present overall and disturbs the development of the aromas. With a little water, it is nice with apple tarts in the afternoon or with rice pudding with apples. Or does the apple association only come from the mention of the Calvados barrel? Nice, but I can't really do anything with the whisky.
