[November, 2017]  I had this dram during a FoSM club tasting "Through the decades - 1930's to 2000's".  I bought this bottle for 359 Euro in August, 2004.  It came in a heavy black wooden box with a red velvet inlay.  The colour is deep copper and the texture shows a medium oiliness with slow legs and late tears.  The nose is quite fresh for a 45-years old and extremely complex.  It offers exotic and home-grown fruits (peaches, oranges, banana), clean old style sherry aromas, toffee, spicy wooden notes and a hint of lemon peels.  All greatly balanced and without a single flaw.  It arrives warming on the palate but it does not really coat the mouth.  No bitter or adstringent moment despite the long years in cask.  The taste is sweet and creamy in a multi-layered structure on oriental fruits (figs, dates), toffee, beeswax, chocolate, spicy woods and these adorable OBFs.  Very complex (just as one would expect from a 45-years old) and again perfectly balanced.  The finish is of medium length on more sherry-induced flavours (dark chocolate, oranges) and spices.  A minor bitterness (almonds) pops up that is rather pleasant in this overall sweet setting.  Water is not needed.

A very delicate and subtle dram for the true connoisseur with dozens of interesting flavours and aromas to explore.  But certainly not a dram for the "oompf" lovers and thrill seekers...

Medium short, little coffee notes, fading away quite quickly

A nose from ancient times when whisky was a different product, yet with a sexy youthful multilayered presence.
A wonderful ripe yellow fruit bouquet (mango, yellow plums, mirabelles, banana, mangosteens) with a few touches of white pepper and some citrus.
Dry and wooden notes are predominantly on the tongue followed by a fat sweetness. The fruits come through rather in the finish, after the sweetness and the (pleasant) wood subsides. Some white pepper stays on the tongue - with some sweetness on the sides - much longer than the otherwise medium whisky finish. Though extensive chewing helps to prolong the finish.

A lovely trip to an ancient whisky time - thank you for the sample!
