Well-done bottling at a top price. Once an insider tip, Tamdhu seems to be slowly emerging from the third row. This bottling appeared just in time.
    • Nose
      88 88
Typical heavy sherried Tamdhu. Juicy orange meets raisins, cherries, dates, cocoa and furniture polish.
    • Taste
      86 86
Tingly sweet, the 48.4% doesn't hide, but never crosses the line. Dried fruits and cherries again on the palate, plus the orange of the distillate. A delicate dryness and spices in the form of black pepper, cinnamon and cloves complete the picture.
    • Finish
      86 86
The drought has receded completely. Dark chocolate and dried fruit dominate the picture. As the volume increases, the distillate is pushed back from the barrel.

Again very interchangeable, the nose points to the Speyside, otherwise an uncomplicated Süffelmalt, not much character.

    Notes from a blind tasting.
    • Nose
      81 81
Fruit, caramel, sherry, that's what the nose says right after pouring. After just a few moments, it withdraws a little, mineral, cardboard, a touch of acid, apples can now be clearly isolated. Then the intensity is suddenly back, more fruit again, acidic, slightly unripe, green. No significant change after a clear standing time. Warmth brings those tiresome notes of rotten fruit, but apparently only temporarily. Now more cardboard, weed and possibly a little smoke. Sherry fruit only in hints.
    • Taste
      83 83
Somewhat fruity honey, not overly sweet, the alcohol is very restrained, the mouthfeel slightly watery, some pepper comes late at the end, gentle sharpness, tasteless. No change in the second sip, maybe at the back, because the sharpness has less effect than in the first sip, a little more herbs.
    • Finish
      82 82
Pepper dominates in the finish, then there are a few herbs and then it's actually gone. If there should be smoke involved, then 1-3ppm maximum.

On offer at the Dutchman for Black Friday 2021. Not €70 for an independently bottled Tamdhu aged 17? You have to try it out. However, I don't quite understand the many good reviews. A disappointment based on the framework data, as it is far too simple. On the other hand, the price is probably no coincidence... so I'm not really mad. But I wouldn't recommend buying it anyway.
    • Nose
      84 84
Spicy, nutty, plus plum and orange. Alcohol a bit pungent. Otherwise, I only get the polish from the listed notes. The nose is not exactly mine...
With a little water, the polish disappears and the sherry emerges. The alcohol no longer stings, the nose is now much more pleasant. Still no revelation.
    • Taste
      82 82
Some orange, no oak, unfortunately the taste is really bad. Alcohol works better on the tongue.
After adding a few drops of water, however, it flattens out completely, although the sherry comes through better. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be recommended.
    • Finish
      83 83
Decent sherry finish. The alcohol stays well integrated. Unfortunately, the finish is short. And otherwise pretty boring.
No change in finish with water. Maybe a little sweeter.

      spicy, short

  11. Bene37 scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Nose: sherry sweetness, dried fruit (apples, apricots, dates, raisins), leather, somewhat earthy, perfume note, light cinnamon

Palate: Dextrose and milk chocolate, plus the above dried fruits and some blood orange, some leather, a pinch of cinnamon, perfume notes

Finish: medium length, warm, glucose, some leather, some blood orange

Rating: a solid sherry part that has received a lot from the barrel, but is not completely overwhelmed by it: sherry sweetness, dried fruit, some leather and perfume. It fits.

    86/100 or 6/10

  12. Official tasting note

NOSE: Polished antique oak floors, honey covered toast and toffee apples

PALATE: Red fruits, Tompouce cake, with sweet barley and a ginger nut biscuit

FINISH: Honeycomb, burnt sugar, peanut butter and vermicelli (CGL)

    I've been lazy on tamdhu

N : appearance shy ...polished wood.. nougat, nuts, vanilla..darker honey..orange, light woodsmoke 87

T: punchy ...sweet nougat chocolate, vanilla, wood, a really nice honey note.. rum/ raisins..sour fruits blood orange ( a sweet lemon note
    :)) hazelnut...89

F/d: chocolate, ginger, cinnamon, Muskat.. sweet honey pops in...nuts/nougat come back... orangepeel..drying..hints of burned wood and ash 90

this is very a nutty and nougat driven one...not stellar but Very balanced surprised about the great long development and finish even diluted...an still you sense the tamdhu spirit - at least I think I do it's been a while trying the fresh spirit. Nice work. For 67 EUR in 21 a bfyb

  15. aspa scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

solid, if slightly less spectacular, sherry whisky.
The barrel is strong but not completely overloaded, the alcohol is well integrated and gives enough power without making the whisky appear too edgy and wild.
I would put this whisky in the "easy drinking" category - if I just want to drink a dram, from the sherry barrel and without thinking too much, without writing big notes, etc. then this whisky goes very well. For the price you get a lot, the PLV is absolutely great, especially at the Black Friday price at d12 (€ 67).

    Nose / taste:
Subtle, sweet sherry, lots of perfume and light cinnamon, cloves and dried plums. The perfume is strong, almost stronger than the typical sherry flavors. Very sweet and dangerous to drink.
Leather alternates with dried fruit of all kinds; the raisins, dates and plums stand out.

Not overloaded, not too "wet in the barrel", sensible, tasty 17 years.
And then such a price. Great for today's standards!

Is it a top dram of the year? No, but at the PLV, this bottle should be at the forefront.
