The Halloween single malt of the A Dream of Scotland series by the Brühler whisky house appeared too late for the festival of the pumpkin monsters. A 13-year-old Port Charlotte and Bordeaux Grand Cru finish will definitely be a festive whisky. So it could also be something for Christmas. The color of this whisky is correspondingly red gold.
    • Nose
This is not clean, ashy smoke, here it smokes, here it smokes, here moist seaweed lies on the embers. This is followed by sweet, dark-fruity aromas that are reminiscent of heavy red wine. Alcohol is not present on the nose.

This is a mature whisky with heavy, sweet aromas, dark chocolate mousse with blackberry syrup and red wine, seasoned with a small dash of cough syrup and candied cherries.
    • Taste
Despite 55.1% vol. the whisky doesn't need any water, nothing burns or tingles here, nothing is spicy here, the alcohol only brings strength and weight. This is undoubtedly a holiday whisky that can persist after the heavy Christmas meal. The smoke opens the taste spot pourri with maritime smoke. Then comes the red wine cream with dark chocolate and thickened cherries, cranberries and blueberries.
    • Finish
The smoke remains present in the mouth with chocolaty fruity notes. Tart chocolate with lots of cocoa, which is filled with a smoked forest fruit jam.

This is a dessert whisky that can be enjoyed with heavy alcohol without any further dilution, which is sweet but not sugary, reminiscent of a deep, dark red wine that is heavy and dry - but not astringent or even bitter. Here the sweetness is contrasted with sufficiently deep, fruity-tart aromas. Delicious!

This could also be one of the many Port Ledaig that I like so much, so very tasty for me, maybe not enough Laddiefunk for someone else
    • Nose
Sweet, smoky raspberries, ashy smoke, slight acidity, caramel, some cowshed, could have been a Ledaig up to this point, some mint, chocolate fights its way out, creamy, some citrus, fresh bread dough on the edge, the lemon pricks more and more often, after the first sip I also have a strong nose for shortbread
    • Taste
Creamy, raspberry, sweet, pleasant smoke, sour, dirty, I stick to my Ledaiga association, full-bodied, fits without water, overall quite dry mouthfeel, the smoke becomes more intense, drier from sip to sip
    • Finish
The laddie character comes through more clearly from the back, caramel, a bit charred, ashy smoke, dirty, you have to smack your lips, sweet, slightly fizzy raspberries are still present on the tongue wings

Without the addition of water, the nose knows how to convince, on the palate a little too little happens to me. However, a few drops of water open the whisky and make it a really great experience. 89 points.

PS: A quick note on whether a whisky "needs water". This is often attributed to aggressive alcohol. In my opinion, the goal of adding water is simply not met. It's not necessarily about relieving the pain by lowering the alcohol content! This whisky "needs" no water to be enjoyable. No. But whoever immediately excludes the addition of a few drops is, in my opinion, cheating on a tremendous taste experience. That had to be done... Too often one reads "no water is needed, the alcohol is well integrated"...
    • Nose
"A great and extremely fruity smoke. That's how I love Port Charlotte! In addition to the burning wood, I hear strawberries and grapefruit. Some orange chocolate. Full and dry. After a while, a grape skin comes through.

Water: What a change! It becomes fuller, softer and yet more intense. Nut flavors are here now and dates."
    • Taste
"The first impression is amazingly creamy. The strawberries and oranges are there immediately. The smoke quickly joins in and cools, dries. Ash is there in the aftertaste and mixes with the fruit acid. Oak, too, leaves its mark.

Water: The whisky also benefits from a few drops of water on the palate. Cashew nuts, coffee, an Italian herbal blend. Dark chocolate lingers in the aftertaste."
    • Finish
Long and smoky. Charred orange peels remain.

Voluminous peat smoke, maritime notes with iodine and sea air, black pepper, plum jam, dry oak, candied apples, ripe red fruits, nut nougat chocolate.

The Bordeaux barrel does not cover the aroma, but complements it. The smoke, the maritime influences and the fruit from the wine barrel are very well balanced.
    • Taste
      89 89
Intense and freshly ground spices, smoke, oak, again hints of jam, peach, iodized salt, mineral notes, then more fruit - a powerful, smoky-tart-spicy-sweet-fruity interplay on the tongue.
    • Finish
      88 88
Sun-dried citrus fruits, stone fruits, light wood, cocoa powder and espresso.
