A fantastic cask that Thomas Ewers selected here. I cannot confirm the assumption of having an Ardbeg in the glass here, as some have expressed themselves in the forums. This may also be due to the PX Cask. However that does not change my rating. Because this is really fantastic stuff.

A large pot with a broth of herbs, spices and fruits simmers over a peat fire. Goes in the direction of Christmas spices and scents. An ancient wooden table is prepared next to it. From pickling to the final wax layer, everything is included. And where the broth can still come up with a certain sweetness, the furniture is rather a dry.

The fruitiness increases. All kinds of dried fruits are served. Cherries, plums, berries. The fire is now more of a ember and it wafts ash and smoke through the room. A rum pot is opened and a pipe is stuffed. With soaking wet tobacco.

The nose and taste were loud and almost overwhelming. It is now getting rather quiet. Salty notes remain on the tongue. The bitter notes of grated fruit seeds are slowly rising. Cherry pastilles and cold espresso release the last flavors before it disappears dry.

The Islay smoke with the PX barrel, that comes together very harmoniously. Very balanced and round. I like it very much, but (current) 900€? :-)

In the meantime, this malt is offered on the base with a surcharge of € 400-500. Madness.

Perhaps the best "Dark Sider" so far. At the beginning a light alcohol note comes through, which quickly dissipates.

Then this mixture of smoke and sherry comes out: That's actually already me.

Great smoky notes and dried fruits of dark berries penetrate the nose. Salty breezes from sea water join in. Almost like perfume. Behind the smoke, new aromas gradually emerge, which I don't want to spoil further here and would like to leave the enjoyment experience to everyone for themselves.

The taste that comes through is reminiscent of an older Caol Ila. Smoked eel, very smoky and very oily, maybe some chimney root, as you know it from a good Alrik. The martime notes combine with those of dark dried fruits.

The finish is medium-long and initially a bit weak, but then it still develops. Perhaps the taste notes were too dominant at first.

    Original tasting notes from MoS:

    Nose:
Fruity smoke, chocolate, plum in Madeira, rum pot, espresso, iodine, musty peat, bacon

    Taste:
Liquid, soft smoke, fruits in rum (cherry, plum, raisins, peach), sea salt, caramelized chestnuts, dried dates and figs

    Conclusion:
Extremely complex on the nose - round and balanced.
Fruit, sweetness and smoke harmonize extremely well. This whisky remains complex and balanced to the last drop.

Anyone who pays a single cask from Springbank, Port Ellen, Ardbeg or Laphroaig for a lot more money can confidently spend 400 euros on this bottling. Absolutely delicious and bottled to the point. A + and gladly 93-95 points from me. I can finally commit myself after a few drums, but it tends to be 94-95. A real wow paints!

    Update:
After I had this painting 4 times in the glass and compared it with other "Favorite Islay Whiskys", I have to correct my rating to 95. This whisky is a complex cracker that one likes to deal with for days. I need more of this!

Update 2: After a tip I compared the whisky directly with the 25 year old Lagavulin from 2016 (https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/84086/lagavulin-25-year-old) and the similarity is in amazing indeed ...

A wonderful Islay whisky. Just right for the cold season.

    Kildragon:
Nose: Wonderful sweetness with a slight campfire smoke. Christmas cake, candied fruits, dates, apricots, plums. Slightly maritime note.
Palate: wonderful sweetness of rum raisins, cherries, dates. In addition, intensifying smoke and oak. You can tell the age now. Ashy smoke. The tannins range from coffee to tobacco to old leather bags and oak cabinets.
Finish: Long. Tannins, ash and smoke stay on the palate for a long time while the sweetness slowly fades. But all of this is so harmonious and without missing tones that you can enjoy it for a long time. This malt was not bottled a day too early.
