[November, 2017]  Another find in my sample library from a time when I did neither scores nor tasting notes.  And unfortunately I do not remember anything about this teeny (literally, as it is just 14 years old).  But good old Silvano (R.I.P.) usually picked excellent casks around that time...

The colour is mahogany and the texture shows a fat sticky ring at the top of the glass that very late builds some very slow moving legs and fat tears (what a great oiliness!).  The nose is all about this adorable old style sherry from a period without sulphur, paxarette or herbal caucasian woods.  It is simply ... great and absolutely flawless.  It arrives on the palate instantly coating with a slight peppery feeling that provides some nice kicks to the mouthfeel.  The taste is truly multi-layered on all the delicious old style sherry flavours one can think of (oranges, plums, raisins, tons of different chocolates, nuts, spices and more).  Not a single flaw, again.  The finish is very long and adds more spicy wooden notes without any bitter or drying moment.  It nicely vanishes in different waves.  Water is absolutely not needed (it flattens the dram)!

Another great pick, dear Silvano!  And it shows impressively that age does not matter at all - this dram is perfect with its just 14 years of maturation and I doubt it would have benefitted from more years in the cask (rather the other way around)...

Oh god sherry again, fine, I have to review this for the generous friend that gave it to me for free.

Lets see, herbal scents of a tropical rainforest. Moving on to plum and raisins, some pitted prunes in the mix.

A coating of parrafin like wax like around the mouth, though I am unsure of this. I could be wrong on that part, as I delve deeper, I am able to taste orange mixed with chocolate, lots and lots of dried red berries that give off a sense of sweet acidity like cranberries. Slightly sour yet sweet and pleasantly soft to the touch.

Not your average fruit cake tarts. Chocolate sprinkles and vanilla cream that's infused by a very specific type of orange - tangerine.

    Oloroso sherry
Herbal and spicy, with furniture polish, leather, wood, nuts, chestnuts, tobacco and cedar wood. Dark red fruit aromas of currants and plums rule the nose. In addition malt and toasted bread with a little chive seasoning on salty clarified butter. A subtle green freshness is always available - great start.
Fruity, spicy, smoky and slightly tart. Chocolate notes with wood, liquorice, nuts, mocha, furniture polish and floor wax. As in the nose, freshly playing at all times.
Medium length - tart and dry and quite dark with a rich wood content. But again mocha, chocolate and spicy herbs. The finish is surprisingly lively and fresh to the end, despite the wood.
Great painting, no question, but we wanted to see more in terms of points!

A beautiful old style of sherry cask matured whisky, very complex and flawless.

A Cadenhead's bottling imported by Samaroli.
