Well-aged EX-BC malt, but I don't notice much of the PX finish. Otherwise a thoroughly honest, classic bottling. My thing again!
    • Nose
      87 87
At the beginning a creamy cocoa powder nose. Dark fruits of berries, plums, oranges. Vanilla, some toasted aromas, dark chocolate.
Spices of pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg emerge from the background. Some wood aromas complement the whole thing very nicely. Alcohol has a slightly cooling effect, almost menthol-like.
    • Taste
      88 88
Fruity, red grapes, pear and red mealy apple, together with the subtle tingling spiciness, it looks very well balanced. Then wood, more wood, more wood. This also makes it slightly bitter on the palate. Some cocoa, caramel, white chocolate. almonds,

    • Finish
      86 86
Medium-length finish, becoming drier, vanilla, only light oak spice, some citrus fruit,

    Nose:
sweet caramel, vanilla, sweetness, sweet stewed fruits, on the pear, very juicy vine peach
a little glue and vegetable sap
    blocked:
the vanilla cooked with fairly dry oak, peppery spices, the fruits are more on the mandarin now, on the candied peel, more vanilla and it's very creamy,
a little white chocolate, creaminess, toasted cereal.
    final:
on the same scents, vanilla, woody, cooked fruits on orange citrus fruits, bitterness finally arrives which unfortunately denotes.

Very woody, little fruit. The PX barrel doesn't come off well here. The basic character of the whisky immediately reminded me of a 10-year-old Black Rock bottling of Irish whiskys, which I tasted much better and was only matured in bourbon casks.

      Fruity, promising (yet)
    • Taste

Dust dry from the first moment. Where, please, was a PX Cask used?
    • Finish
      77 77
Dry and bitter. If that's a PX finish then it was probably the worst PX Cask ever.

  7. Official tasting note

Pedro Ximénez Cask Series - 19 Years Old
Single Malt Irish Whiskey - distilled at Cooley

This 19-year old single malt was initially matured in first-fill bourbon barrels, before we created a small batch that we aged for a further 24 months in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. The successor to last year’s PX 18, it has a rich cocoa nose with white pepper spices, raisings & toasted oak. This year, we brought the whiskey back down to a manageable 46%, and the result is outstanding. Limited to 348 bottles

    Recommended Retail Price: € 159.95
