I wanted to try this for a while. Let's see if there's any pleasant surprise... And yes, it's enjoyable and I saved the rest of the sample for another day!
    • Nose
      84 84
The nose began with light bergamot, and a blend of basil and bay leaves. There's also yuzu fruit. So far so very good! Sandalwood and orange gave a warmer feeling. A mix of flowery and damp wood notes added a little complexity. The herbs persisted. Unsurprisingly cream soda/fanta orange appeared with time. All very nice!
    • Taste
      82 82
Sweet, juicy and fresh, like the filling of soft shelf orange candy. The mouthfeel is right between round and dry. There's juicy white peach, and strawberry, not the big red one, but the smaller, paler, whiter one. Delightful! That said, some sour taste developed after it was sitting in the glass for a while, so a point deducted.
    • Finish
      82 82
Skin of roasted nuts in the aftertaste, right amount of bitterness and in a good way. The finish befits the ABV.

Writers’ Tears Double Oak is an exclusive Irish whiskey created using two woods and two styles of premium Irish whiskey. A blend of Single Pot Still and Single Malt Irish whiskey, aged in two types of wood – American Oak Bourbon Barrels from Kentucky and French Oak Cognac Casks from the Cognac Region in France. It is triple-distilled, non-chill filtered and bottled at 46% ABV. This expression is made possible by a close collaboration between the Walsh family in Ireland’s County Carlow and the Legaret family in Cognac, France.
