He is very special. This interplay of bright lemony fruit and bitter Campari, plus the mix of honey and malt, which reminds me a lot of Clynelish - for me a great malt with a lot of intensity.
    • Nose
Honey, vanilla, sweet dark yellow apricots, red apples, pineapple, melon, lemon, lemon balm, lemongrass, mint, sweet pastries, Toblerone, a lot of malt, also mineral notes, fine sweet meadow flowers, fresh and clear - with 3 drops of water: more lemon , even fresher
    • Taste
BÄM - the lemon rolls into your mouth, a surprising fruity and mineral explosion! Stimulating saliva, wonderfully oily, also blood oranges are included. Then immediately dark chocolate, which quickly turns into espresso, lemon squirrels, nutmeg and pepper, again kräutrig, meadow flower blossoms (daisies, dandelion flowers), lemongrass is included, including melissa and marjoram, apples, then lime and lemon zest, a little cinchona, dandelion, something not yet ripe banana - the Malt now gets a bitter touch that fits great: this is like an explosive blend of limoncello, apple spritzer and Campari; honey and malt. Altogether very intense aromas.
    • Finish
long and warm-spicy, lots of lemon and blood orange, lemon zest, espresso, Campari, some pepper, there is again the lemon squirrel, later mint and a hint of anise

A tricky whisky, 50% ABV… I wouldn’t get that to be honest. So With this freshness on a hot summer day it will go down easy.

Now I wouldn’t call this my daily dram, it’s good, it’s different but not something for me on a daily base. It will do well in a summer period that’s for sure. Would score this as a very nice whisky to showcase how different whisky can be.
    • Nose
Fresh herbal and zesty, I get a very distinctive citrus smell. Something sweet and a bit maltiness. It’s not a young whisky but I get a faint young smell in there. Not a complex nose but a very refreshing one. Touch of mint, a good spoon of honey and vanilla. Then grassiness and herbs again. With water the barley is more prominent.
    • Taste
Very fresh, limestone, lemon and grass. A good punch in flavour, not to big but also not shy. Well balanced, fruits like apple, pears and pineapple. A bit of honey is surfacing but lime and grass are most dominant here.
    • Finish
Again very citrusy. Refreshing to find this in a whisky. I would almost think of a limoncello aftertaste, not that creamy but it sticks. (if you know what I mean)

This works! It's a lovely fresh dram! For this price, maybe not a Daily Dram, but an occasional stellar dram!
    • Nose
Fresh, mineral, fruity and herbal. There is freshness of limestone, maybe even a fresh sea breeze, juicy grass and mint (especially the smell of fresh mint after a rain shower), and plenty of lush fruit: pears, apples and pineapple. The cask delivers richness of vanilla, and sawdust on honeyed barley.
    • Taste
Perfect body, not too light, not too heavy, with a nice level of alcohol. It's fruity as in apple juice, pear and pineapple. What strikes me is that it's a little spicy too, with nutmeg, cinnamon (but in a gentle way). The texture is creamy, like vanilla cream with a cherry on top. Barley and mint complete the sensation.
    • Finish
Moderately long and very pleasant. The fruit changes to ripe oranges and grapefruit, which is accompanied by vanilla, mint and a spray of pepper.

    Reine Claude

Aberfeldy was originally built by Dewar's & Sons to provide enough Highland style malt for their famous blend White Label. You can visit Dewar’s World of Whisky at the distillery, an exhibition that goes beyond Aberfeldy. But we will stick with a Belgian bottler today, The Nectar, who released this Aberfeldy 5 years ago.

Wow, this nose is pretty waxy! I was not expecting this. I get a load of orchard fruit: apples, pears and then mostly Reine Claude, the green plum. And beeswax. Even some flints. Reminds me a bit of Clynelish, in fact (which is always a good thing). Some yellow flowers too. Buttercups. Lemongrass? Something that reminds me of ovomaltine. This is very, very good!

It is pretty oily on the palate. The orchard fruit returns, upholstered with some citrus. Think mandarin or blood oranges. But also gooseberries. Turns a bit green. Herbal. Garden herbs, that offer some bitterness. Good strength, actually.

The finish is long, offering up some liquorice in strength.

Boy, my experience with Aberfeldy is not vast (this is only my seventh), but this was very good indeed. You can still find it left and right in Belgium for around 120 EUR.

Very good Aberfeldy, the mouth is a big below in terms of complexity but it remains a beautiful expression of the distillery! 88 points.
    • Nose
Yellow fruits and citrus fruits sprinkled with spices then a mineral touch on the wet stone. With the opening it becomes more precise and more vegetal with melon, green banana honey and a saline touch. Very nice nose!
    • Taste
Fruity mouth (apricot, lemon) and creamy in the perfect continuity of the nose but with a little less depth and complexity, it is still very pleasant to drink!
    • Finish
Hot and spicy finish on roasted and salted nuts as well as dry apricot.

A good Aberfeldy who chooses its honey intake and is fairly well balanced between its lemon and its malted force. Not very complex but it remains pleasant at all levels. Full tasting here: http://www.whiskyandco.net/aberfeldy-19832010-27yo-50-daily-dram/
