  1. Baanaanaabob scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Nutty sherry a bit of leather, not bad

  2. vlad78 scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Sweet, like food coloring, cotton candy, burnt plum jam. Sometimes barrels give such flavor characteristics that require further work, however, in this case, they chose not to continue developing the drink.

  4. DGV scored this whisky 88 points Expert Junior

An excellent combination of ultra-high degree and an array of derivatives donated by the barrel. It is always interesting to analyze such experimental samples and try to understand how the author manages to maintain balance, going beyond the usual characteristics.
    • Nose
Dates, raisins, chocolate, grape juice, coffee.
    • Taste
Again a wave of berry and confectionery derivatives, plus added mineral shades and woody notes.
    • Finish
Very long, astringent, on the verge of light anesthesia.

  5. DannyDram scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Raisins, dates, dark chocolate, dried orange peel, subtle wood and pneu smoke, malt, honey, slightly woody. Needs some water, good intensity, good start, powerful body, slightly sharp, drying, somewhat acidic.

A Bunnahabhain from the Cask Strength Collection with 64.7vol. , primarily matured in hogsheads and finished in sherry butt. 10 years and 10 months old and in the classic Signatory flower vase. And therefore around 110 € expensive. It will be enough to get a sample.

    • Nose
Sweetness, powdered sugar and vanilla are the first notes on the nose. Then there is also spice and there is actually wood. But it all stays on the malty-sweet side, is pleasing and lacks rough edges. The malty sweetness is also a sign of youth. At the very end, a maritime funk is indicated in the aroma, but it is still too fleeting.
    • Taste
A whisky with over 60% vol. burns. And in particular, young whisky burns and bites. And this whisky is young. With a little water it stays on the sweet side, opening up lovely syrupy fruit flavors. Some white peach, some plum - but above all sweet elderflower syrup. Then comes wood, no bitterness, no mustiness, no maritime funk. It is most likely to come if you drink the whisky undiluted - but then all the fruity-sweet notes are missing.
    • Finish
The whisky is tasty and has nice aromas. But there is a lack of sustainability, everything is hinted at and then disappears again. Some wood is there, something maritime Islay can be guessed.

That's drinkable whisky, that's a nice sherry butt that doesn't drown out the whisky - but that's not enough years. The alcohol is too strong and has not yet been able to form a symbiosis with the aromas. The whisky is tasty and certainly fun - but for €110 I expect depth, maturity and character. This whisky lacks them!
