  1. FritzeKrautman scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

A wonderful, immediately present complex nose, but then disappointingly weak and lacking in expression on the palate; gets much better with the finish and tempts you to swallow. Very good PLV.
    • Nose
      90 90
Sweet syrup, dark fruits (orange, currant, blackberry). Spicy, burnt wood, cocoa. Caramel, Salt, Vanilla, Pine Resin, Chewing Gum
    • Taste
      85 85
Very soft and a little sweet, dark fruits, honey, a little limp
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium finish. He now develops a bit more bite with sweet dark berries, wood, tobacco, cloves and subtle bitterness

Drinks well. Tasty, good on the nose, it breaks down a bit at the back.
For the price, the malt suits me well.
    • Nose
      86 86
First impression is a syrupy sweetness that pours out of the glass. Together with dark fruits like plums, oranges, red berries, this sweetness looks slightly artificial like chewing gum. Wood, some malt, cocoa and caramel are added. After some time in the glass, it has a rather intense dark fruity effect with tobacco and chocolate. The sweetness also becomes "more natural" and appears fresher. More vanilla and caramel sweetness. Well balanced between fruit and sweet aromas.
    • Taste
      84 84
Quite thin, a little watery on the palate. But also very soft. Sweet and dark fruits like red berries, cherries, grapes are present. A light oak spice is noticeable but not really pronounced. Therefore only slightly sparkling. Honey, vanilla, anise bring sweetness with it. You could very subtly suspect some tobacco and almonds. It has a very pleasant mouthfeel and is quite tasty. But then it seems a bit paler on the palate than it is on the nose.
    • Finish
      83 83
Medium finish. Here again a nice mix of sweetness, fruit and spice. Appears a bit oily in the mouth, oranges, berries, a bit bitter tobacco, becomes milder and warmer but also slightly spicy.

  4. Solitom scored this whisky 86 points Expert Junior

Really delicious. Uncomplicated, drinkable whisky. But could have used a few percent more.

    Manufacturer information:
    • Nose
Strong and rich. Vegetable notes in combination with a fruity sweetness, citrus fruits, vanilla, coconut chocolate and berries.
      .
    • Taste
Smooth and fruity. With spicy oak notes and a full-bodied creaminess and pleasant fruitiness.
      .
    • Finish
A wonderfully long finish with notes of tropical fruits and a delicate hint of nuts and spices.

  6. Boletus did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

A delicious blend with a nice old-school component, which lacks a few percentages, but is also a lot of fun.
    • Nose
Superficially quite sweet with sultanas and a little date syrup, wildflower honey, behind it there is a fermented hint with a slightly sour touch, has a bit of grape must and balsamic vinegar that has matured in wooden barrels for a long time, fine wood spice enriched with a little vanilla and cocoa, a few raspberries, too Blackberry plays along, dried orange peel, floral notes in the direction of hibiscus blossoms far in the background, the aroma package is quite light and fragile, but is quite appealing and has a similarly beautiful profile as some blends a few decades ago
    • Taste
Sultanas bathe in orange marmalade and date syrup, a fairly sweet start with a somewhat thin mouthfeel is backed by a sour tingle of raspberries and blackberries, a little cassis, a tiny drop of butyric acid, then it gets creamier, caramel chocolate, the oak knocks and that's done not even that quiet, long-drawn black tea, a small piece of gentleman's chocolate, some leather, the grain content dares to emerge and shows a slightly alcoholic side, but it's not too bad and is quickly lost again in the interplay of chocolaty sweetness and spicy oak wood, plum jam, walnut
    • Finish
Medium length, aromatic oak with noticeable spice, hardly any bitterness, walnuts, dark chocolate with a high cocoa content and orange filling, again some plum jam, almonds, little marzipan, the aftertaste shows a mixture of sultanas and date sweetness and rotten wood

  7. ebenezer scored this whisky 79 points Newbie

    Overall unbalanced.
Without the Madeira finish, it would probably be completely unsaleable.
So he may still impress complete whiskey newbies.
    Not recommended for whiskey connoisseurs.
    • Nose
      87 87
Intense but simply structured. Completely dominated by the Madeira finish. No identity evident from the distillates themselves. Not even from the 25 years of maturation. Aromas of dried fruit and strongly oxidative rancio notes.
    • Taste
      75 75
Thin, empty, characterless. No sweetness, no bite. Should have been filled with significantly more alcohol.
    • Finish
      75 75
      short, dry, bitter, unsatisfactory

Very pleasant, elegant nose! Vanilla, oranges, rhubarb, blackberries, honey, also slightly spicy
    • Taste
      87 87
Creamy, caramel, blackberries, currants, vanilla, grapes, a hint of ginger,
    • Finish

Medium, with oak, walnuts, baked cocoa,

  10. JoshNRW scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Yeah, for 60 euros you probably can't go wrong. 25 years, a smooth blend, less than 42 percent and a liqueur cask finish. Of course it tastes delicious and I like it better than a bad single cask with over 55 percent and a wet finish.
But of course it's not exciting.

I like it better with a few drops of water, especially the nose is so fun and most like a nice whiskey.
    • Nose
Smooth blend nose with some grain at the beginning. After 15 minutes the barrel wins and you have a fortified wine whiskey with plum jam.
I like it much better with water and it has a nice fruity flavor.
    • Taste
A little more oak here, the 42 percent isn't too weak, but the grain in the middle part still seems quite stormy. The barrel isn't overly dominant, but the bitterness from the grain does get in the way of a round profile.
    • Finish
The finish is rather fleeting and the mouthfeel is slightly creamy, slightly sweet but overall balanced for the composition.

  11. LDB scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Very nice candy. In any case, an unbeatable PLV. Scratches at 87 points.
And: No pain, no grain. ;)
    • Nose
      86 86
Pleasant vanilla spice and rhubarb meringue.
    • Taste
      87 87
Very approachable, with a waxy note and acidic fruit compote.
    • Finish
      86 86
Fades relatively quickly, but with larger sips it ends beautifully harmoniously and fruitily.

  12. Drum scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

It is really pleasant from the nose to the finish and a red thread of aromas runs through. I really liked the Glenalba 25, an "easy drinking" without rough edges.
    • Nose
Sweet and I immediately have to think of sweet pastries. I have plum jam, biscuit, vanilla, sherry and toffee. I also find oranges and tangerines, find it very mild on the nose.
    • Taste
How sweet on the nose, oranges and pastries and this mix associate Jaffa biscuits! Very mild without being thin. Add some pipe tobacco and oak.
    • Finish
Pretty long! Mild and warm with orange, orange oil... because it gets oily in the mouth! Plum jam, tobacco, oak, marzipan, fruit marzipan and fruit punch with a slight tingle.

  13. 67conrad67 scored this whisky 87 points Member Senior

Smell: fruity nose, plum, sweetish undertone, fine note of cedar wood, rum pot, leather, tobacco, nice balance, mint/eucalyptus in the base, according to cola note, with air dtl. caramel note

Taste: sweetish, substantial attack, nicely integrated alcohol, present spicy wood, dark enamel, dark chocolate, burnt caramel, note of bitter almonds in the middle. reverberation

Colour: bright copper tone, narrow water edge, clear

Conclusion: My clear favorite of the Glenalbas released in 2021 - it's really fun in the glass, I'm looking for grain notes in vain at least ... And if you then bought it at a special price, the PLV is almost indecently good against the background of the current price developments ...

How should one rate such a whisky? It is an aged whiskey that is showing its age. Colored and filtered. 41.4% after 25 years? Who knows how the barrels were stored and how much the angels got?!
    Great sherry finish!
I bet there are some fully matured sherry casks in there!
The price factor just invites you to buy and enjoy?!
This is a great single malt! Where's the grain? no grain!
    • Nose
Intensive! Very dark fruity. Delicious! Is there leather? Typical Pedro Sherry. But there is a lot of that and a little more. Very towards PX. If you smell it closely, Maggi and lovage come by. Very subtle adhesive. Sweetness and vanilla are not missing.
    • Taste
      Tastes really great!!
      Dark cherries, blackberries and grapes.
Nice and creamy mouth filling. Correct drinking strength.
    • Finish
Nutty. The barrel stays a little longer, dark fruits too.

Medium length, sweet, spicy, somewhat bitter, astringent

  18. Dogs2 scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

For me a really good representative of his guild, even if the finish is very present.
Fruity with sweet grapes, oranges, red almost overripe apples, vanilla, grated coconut, toffee, subtle oak notes. Mild, slightly creamy, sweet, mild, unfortunately it seems a bit narrow on the chest from time to time. Medium-length finish with slightly spicy oak notes and sweet fruit.
