    • Nose
      93 93
Pickled tropical fruits (Thai mango, spiced apricots, etc.) Tobacco, leather straps. Anise, fennel, thyme, rosemary. Add dark chocolate and brown sugar...
    • Taste
      93 93
Very sweet and strong, the nose translates into the taste. Great start, no pungent alcohol, which, thanks to its strength, brings the flavors to the tongue. Very balanced wood notes join in.
    • Finish
      94 94
      Spicy sweet.
      Terrific!

  2. vlad78 scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Very strong, concentrated, multi-faceted whiskey forged from steel.
    • Nose
      91 91
Thick, warm cream tones (he generally reminded such a cake with berries), apricot, wild berries, ink, iodine, old tree bark. With water, it became like a cake with raisins and candied fruit.
    • Taste
      89 89
Thick, astringent, slightly sugary, dusty, tart, full of fresh dark berries (blackberries, blueberries and even strawberries), with water more harmonious, sweet, but retaining its profile.
    • Finish
      88 88
Thick, warm and assertive like air from a hair dryer, berries and tart tones of ink, not very long lasting. With water, this bitterness resembles the burnt edge of a dried fruit pie.

The Marsala Casks give a really nice kick of sweet berry fruits on the tongue. At least that's how I think. And if it should be completely different: it doesn't matter, this Bushmills is an absolute blast either way.
    • Nose
      92 92
The Oloroso Sherry barrels deliver a concentrated load of dried fruits, leather and tobacco notes right from the start. There are raisins, dried apricots, figs and dates. In addition, however, a not so small basket full of tropical fruits can be made out, which with its play of aromas forms a nice counterpoint to the aromas mentioned at the beginning. The intensity and characteristics of the spices that are added later do not have to hide behind those of an older single pot still whiskey: thyme, rosemary, marjoram, star anise. In addition, dark chocolate and toffee.
    • Taste
      92 92
Full and very creamy, it hits the tongue. Here sweet raspberries and strawberry purée come to the fore, but then quickly accompanied by raisins, dried apricots, dates and figs. Tamarind. Less leathery than on the nose, but with the same blend of spices. Slightly musty, musty barrel aromas, now (almost) dry wood, coffee with milk, toffee, caramel, raisin bread.
    • Finish
      91 91
Long and only slightly dry finish, in which chocolate, white coffee, toffee and raisin bread long wave goodbye.

    shop info:

"This 1995 Marsala cask is a limited edition rare cask finished, cask strength, and non chill-filtered Irish single malt. Matured for over 10 years in Oloroso butts and bourbon barrels, this single malt is then finished in Marsala casks sourced from the island of Sicily.

This imparts the brown sugar and spiced fruit notes from the sweet Marsala casks onto this whiskey. "

That Whiskey is a real Irish Gem. I have tasted the 1995/2020 Bushmills Causeway bottle, too. And this one is even better. I hope we will see more of these great bottlings from Bushmills in the future.
Typical sweet Busmills taste and a Finish for an hour.
