A great moment in the history of Wave Distil, it is the first time that its famous August 17th whisky has reached the symbolic 10 years mark.

I had the chance to be one of the very first to be able to discover it and here are my impressions.
    • Nose
      87 87
Nose: We first have a very smooth nose, given the power displayed. Its scent is also delicate, we have red fruit, but also a kind of prunes, without the sweet aspect. It's really very fine, but it gives off honey, wood or toasted dried fruits. With a little water added, it will lead to notes that are still fruity, but more syrupy, gaining in the process a kind of quince confit. We have something very fresh, very delicate and which stands out well from traditional maturation, bourbon etc ...
    • Taste
      88 88
Palate: The aromas will express themselves very clearly here and it's very nice. We find caramel, a nice treat, all in balance with these grilled dried fruits. It's powerful, but very affordable. This robustness is accompanied by apples with a slightly bitter skin, spices such as nutmeg, pepper, cinnamon. It will gain in dryness, with a more winey hint, but also vanilla. Again, the water is going to unlock the flavors a bit more, always with that quince confit and I would tend to say pineapple, that sort of thing. It remains very delicate, despite a bitterness which progresses, on the tea leaf.
    • Finish
      86 86
Final: Here, more fruit, red, plums rather fresh than dry, although ... Walnut, which takes us to Port. More vegetal notes, for an erased bitterness. In short, a typical Wave Distil expression, a ten year old who progresses on his own path and does not resemble the others. There are things that are known, then we switch to a register off marked trails, then we come back to it. For me, it brings something interesting to its sector, which will satisfy amateurs depending on whether they are more or less sensitive to its different facets.
