As I picked up an order at the Whiskybase shop, I always like to have a little chat with (one of) the shop clerks. As I was about to head home, Tijmen gave me a sample of this whisky as a little extra. That certainly is not a punishment :)
So, PC with a red wine finish! That should be musty, and yes it is. It plays along the edge, just enough in my books. You do notice it is still young and playful, meaning that it tries to be all over the place. It has balance, but not enough of it yet. A good one for your peaty fix anyways.

Thanks again for the sample, Tijmen.
    • Nose
Peaty, lactic and musty. I've read that the red wine cask finishing period was around 2-3 years, and it has its impact I can tell you. There's peat, sweet/sour pickle, smoky barbecue sauce, ash, damp cellar, hessian, strawberry in all forms, kiwi, apricot, blood orange, sour cream, toffee, sultana, apple pie, old honey, cinnamon and walnut.
Quite an overload of strawberry if you'll let it breathe for a few minutes. Interchanges really fast though, as the musty elements are fighting for the spotlight.
    • Taste
I expected a bigger smack of peat here.
Peat, pickle brine, barbecue sauce, wait a minute.. I could copy all of the notes above. It's exactly like the nose. Tasting is always different to nosing, that's true, but it truly is an exact copy. What I do want to add is: a great oily texture, good integration of alcohol and.. lots of salt! One could say you can taste the air of Islay.
    • Finish
Long and salty, which is good. Peat, cold smoke, ash, bacon, brine, strawberry, ripe banana, salted caramel, dark chocolate and cherry liqueur.
