    blind sample.
I personally find it different…. Different but delicious. But he doesn't show his age that way.
    • Nose
      Colour:
      Shiny gold

      Nose:
When pouring, a gush of bananas comes out of the glass. Fresh, young wood and hay.
With a little time in the glass, a spark of smoke and a slight saltiness become noticeable. Overripe limes, vanilla, a bit floury, cake batter and a certain fine spiciness.
    • Taste
Metallic, spicy attack with a slightly immature note.
Herbal, mineral and a bit sparse. Robust bitterness and sour plums. Mirabelle spirit and a grainy cereal sweetness are also added.
    • Finish
medium length Nutty bitterness and grainy sweetness again. Plus some roasted flavors.

This is an exciting Old Rhosdhu that will take you on a journey of flavors and aromas. If you’re into Loch Lomond you’ll recognize it’s funkiness and fruitiness. Highly recommendable and the best part? It’s readily available at a decent price. How about that given nowadays whisky craziness. So pay the shop where it’s on offer a visit, you won’t be disappointed.

Let’s get on with it. Nosing this gives you industrial metallic and mineral notes, something like cooking oil, olives, mushrooms and that musty old wooden aromas. Tastewise there’s a real fruit explosion, think apples, pears, mandarins, pineapple and mangos next to some fresh green and oatmeal like aromas. The finish is quite nice and lasting with those fruits turning into nice lingering old wood aromas. Again, this Old Rhosdhu is seriously recommended. It’s complex, different to nowadays spiked whiskies and come at ridiculous good price - quality offer.

This Rhosdhu was tasted at the same time as a 30 year old Rhosdhu (WB183541) and it was the clear winner. Both whiskys are harmonious and easy to drink. However, with this one, the flavors are much more intense and the finish is a real explosion of taste and alcohol content compared to the other. that's why I give it 89 points!

A really nice malt. The Old Rhosdhus somehow usually always have a few special notes in them, but probably not everyone likes them. It was a little too much for me at another bottling. I really liked it today.
    • Nose
Initially a mixture of wood and grain. Something like an old, dusty grain shed in which, however, already crushed grain is stored. After that, the fruits tend to be yellow. Apricot jam on butter toast. Yellow gooseberries. Removed a little wax. Briefly some dragon fruit. A couple of yellowed books. Possibly also mushrooms. Hay.
    • Taste
Nice mouthfeel. At first rather sweet. Cloudberries. Nashi pear. Honeycomb. Crunchy cereal. Then comes a pleasant and elegant, but well noticeable spice of the oak. At the same time some fruit acid and thus salivation. But now the oak takes over and makes the story drier.
    • Finish
Green tea. Hay. Cereal flour. Hints of moldy wood.

Very nice, well-matured whisky with a fine exoticism. The alcohol is mild and has a hodgepodge of exciting flavors. Like opening the bar compartment of an old living room cupboard - 01/02/2022
    • Nose
      89 89
Warm sweetness, vanilla, dried fruit, apricot, mango, flowery, with this fruity sweetness I think of a flower shop, cereals, crispy toasted bread, finely roasted malt, rusty metal, cardboard
    • Taste
      88 88
Bitter-sweet, kumquats or physalis, mango, ginger, turmeric, nutmeg, metallic but not in the sense of youthfulness
    • Finish
      89 89
Long, the oak is very dominant, laurel, very dry with a peppery finish

Seamlessly joins the excellent ranks of Old Rhosdhu 1990 bottlings that have recently come onto the market, especially the split barrel # 416 of the Whiskynerds (Base-ID 176183) and the Wu Drams (Base-ID 177449) as far as the Barrel # 425 from the Caskhound (Base-ID 183541).

Head 2 Head, especially in nose and taste, very similar to the Caskhound, a bit more subtle, but more mineral in the nose, almost identical on the palate. The finish of the EVWC is more astringent with more herbs and very grassy, without the chocolate notes. Barrel # 416 cannot deny that it is related, but it is clearly different.

For me, all three excellent ex Bourbon Casks are on par and are "worth" 89 points each to me.

    Excellent!
Complex. You can deal with it for quite a while. Independent and, above all, very tasty.
It's also nice that the somewhat older age actually makes itself felt. The oak load could be too much for some, I like this here.
    • Nose
First of all, a lot of oak rises towards you. So a la dusty chest of drawers, here the age is directly noticeable, almost has something mineral about it. But also blossom honey, which gives it a little sweetness, various grasses, eucalyptus, a few yellow fruits over time, malty notes and a fine citrus touch reveal themselves. Removes pineapple and cinnamon.
    • Taste
Hmm mouth-filling. It was very pleasant, overall the alcohol was never bothersome.
Here, too, a nice interplay of the bitter oak tones, which bring a fine bitterness, the malty sweetness, and the grassy notes, which bring in a little freshness.
It's fun to chew on for a long time.
    • Finish
When you swallow, the grassy thing remains first, then the oak spreads over the palate and remains stuck there for a loooong time, you can still benefit from that for a while. Nice.

Colorful mix of great floral aspects (wild spring meadow) and a multitude of ferns; plus great impressions of citrus fruits, yellow cherries and apples, star fruit, a hint of pineapple, a hint of banana and honey mead (but finely accentuated and with a fine, not too intense sweetness).
Over time, fine malt nuances and a fresh woodcut as well as an idea of lemon milk ice cream and tart spice aromas and a pinch of salt shine through in the background. Water opens up the aroma palette a little and promotes fruitiness in a very pleasant and again not intense way. Really independent in character, which I like very much. You rarely have something like that in the glass, which makes bottling exciting! A whisky that requires patience and wants to be explored ... anti-mainstream, which is why I really liked it!
