Whisky Reviews for A Secret Speyside Distillery 1994 EVWC

A wonderfully harmoniously balanced, mysterious Speysider which convinces with its not overloaded nature and in my opinion the longer it stays in the glass or mouth, the more interesting and better it becomes.
    • Nose
Dried fruits rise heavily from the glass, pickled raisins play with hazelnuts and old apricots, overripe applesauce is creamy with a hint of dried herbs and spicy wood. Over time, the nose appears relatively one-dimensional, but extremely harmonious and creamy!
    • Taste
Baked apples dominate with roasted hazelnuts and spicy wood tones on first contact on the tongue, apricots and meadow herbs, hints of leather and fermented fruits, minimally musty and rotten. Gradually, nuances of citrus fruits show up, the wooden and slightly tart influences increase noticeably, I imagine I perceive a minimal smoky note ... The dark yellow fruit notes harmonize perfectly with the spicy and tart wood elements, minimal sharpness tickles the tongue and stimulates the saliva.
    • Finish
A wonderful mixture of dried fruit and tart wood sticks to the palate to be cozy and warm, a minimal smoky note is released from roasted hazelnuts, the aftertaste slowly sounds creamy and calls for another sip!

    Another Glenrothes ...?
    • Nose

Plum wine, dry oak, liquid caramel, walnuts, plum cake, jelly fruits glazed with cocoa, Christmas spices.
    • Taste
      87 87
Nice and sweet start, then becomes fruity-jammy (apricot, blackberry) before the wood gets louder. Herbal finale.
    • Finish
      87 87
Dry and leathery-earthy at the back, with a clear herbal note (rosemary, laurel) and quite a lot of oak.

  4. jay83 scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

Overripe pomaceous fruit from the home garden (over time there is also a hint of fine grapes, very subtle exotic hints with ideas of papaya, passion and star fruit as well as a tinge of darker berries (subtle sherry influence); subtle hints of fine ham and summery garden spices as well as elegant nuances of nut impressions (walnut ice cream); good symbiosis of the sherry barrel influences, the fleshy fruit nuances as well as the fine spice aspects. Taste well balanced middle of sweetness / fruit and the tart influences (in the finish, in addition to the barrel influences, more and more subtle leatheriness comes to light); not limitlessly complex but a really well balanced and dangerous drinkable sherry whisky.
