a blended from 3 islands to combine the sweetness of peat more than its harshness:
peppery, malty, dry peat, vanilla, grassy peat
it's less peaty than expected, more on dry smoke, on cold ashes, orange fruits, cooked, a little vanilla, it's very sweet, sweet caramel, more herbs and smoke
on the same scents, with the peat in the background, the peppery spices come to break this finish a little.

Near the new Torabhaig Distillery on the Isle of Skye are the ruins of Caisteal Chamuis, Castle Camus and Knock Castle. The distillery belongs to the bottler Mossburn Distillers, which belongs to Marussia Beverages and is the producer of this blended Islands malt. Whiskeys from Islay, Orkney and Skye are probably used. It also contains Torabhaig whiskey – at least in this NAS version. The whiskey is chased through an interesting cask combination, first matured in refill American oak, then comes partly in virgin oak and hocksheads with fresh Oloroso heads and is then finished in refill bourbon barrels. It is a bit darker than the Torabhaig but still at most straw yellow. And he's heavily peated.

    • Nose
And so it is of course the smoke that rises from the glass as the first strong impression, wood fire and flying ash, light smoke and behind it freshly sawn wood. A cauldron of apple compote is steaming on the fire, and if you pay close attention, you can also get some caramel.
    • Taste
Smoke, sweetness and bitterness are the dominant flavors in the mouth. While the alcohol in the Torabhaig was quite strong, it works here despite the 46% vol. a little watery. The whole thing isn't complex or layered, it's a powerful smoker with nice vanilla, some sweetness and wood.
    • Finish
The aftertaste is surprisingly short, and the smoke also fades relatively quickly here. Lastly remains light ash with elusive sweet vanilla and the freshly sawn wood.

The Caisteal Chamuis without age battles in a field with many, many smokers without age, sometimes appearing as single malt and sometimes as blended malt. And quite a few are dominated by Caol Ila. So certainly this one, because hopefully they won't waste too much Torabhaig here. And is that Highland Park of Orkney in it? At least I don't notice the taste. He is nice but doesn't really stand out in the field of opponents.

Alcohol very well integrated, sweet smoky, very pleasing. In my opinion, it only has a funny aftertaste on the finish, which reminds me of dry, ashy smoke.
    • Nose
some smoke, citrus, essential oil, caramel
    • Taste
Peat, slightly earthy, sweet, very creamy, oily, mild, wood
    • Finish
becoming dry, smoke, coats tongue, dry, ashy smoke lingers in mouth

    • Taste

peaty, earthy, nutty, spicy, rather mellow
    • Finish
      87 87

Sweetish, some smoke, vanilla, herbs, young

    the taste
A lot of herbs, sweetness, some ginger spiciness, wood spice

Almost medium length, herbs, oak spice, flattening out quickly

    • Nose
lots of creamy vanilla, then herbs, powdered sugar and menthol. I can also perceive a Mediterranean note. A sweet smoky note hovers over everything
    • Taste
here the herbal note is clearly in the foreground. Then again the creamy vanilla, some pepper, menthol, ash and subtle oak
    • Finish
long-lasting intense finish with lots of pepper, fresh herbs, oak and ashy smoke
