The blend includes Islay and Highland Park whiskeys. That's how it smells and tastes too. Nice to have, but nothing special either.

Surprisingly good, mild, fresh peated dram. Try it at a blind tasting H2H with a Caol Ila. - Indeed value for money !

Mild smoky blend. Fortunately, the sherry finish is not too dominant. Good daily dram.

The 12-year-old variant of the blended malt, named after a ruined castle on the Sleat Peninsula on the Isle of Skye near the Torabhaig Distillery, is first matured in refill American Oak hogsheads, then transferred to American Oak hogsheads that have held Oloroso sherry for at least 5 years and finished in European Oak Sherry Butts that have been seasoned with Oloroso. But he has not become a sherry monster in color, but pleasantly light golden. The blend was created using whiskeys from one distillery each on Islay and Orkney. Due to the age, Torabhaig is of course not included here.

    • Nose
The smoke is fruitier on the nose and smoother than the NAS Caisteal Chamuis. You notice the sherry influence through tart, slightly burnt caramel notes, fresh hazelnuts, white peach and yellow plums. With a bit of imagination, the smoke also tends towards the heather peat aroma of Highland Park. Smoke and fruit form a nice blend with a light acidity and some nuts.
    • Taste
Smoky white wine gums, the smoke is powerful and round, has elegance. Caol Ila and Highland Park, an interesting mix (at least it would be the mix I wish it would be...). The alcohol is mild and sufficient, the bitterness of the wood is not old but well combined with sweetness and fruitiness. There is also a piece of nut nougat chocolate.
    • Finish
In the aftertaste, warm oak smoke remains in the mouth and the wine gum sticks a little on the palate (a not so sweet candy variant, which one imagines ...)

This is a delicious blended malt that is not bulky, but comes with a nice understatement and a certain hebridean elegance. The blend of Islay and Orkney smoky notes results in an aromatic, dry smoke that lacks gumboots and damp bladderwrack. But the smoke is of course there and the whiskey is certainly not for those who hate smoking.

The flavor isn't really my thing. Here he gets the strongest deduction from me. But it has a great taste! Really velvety and soft. Very exciting whisky. There's a lot to discover here.
    • Nose
medicinal smoke, smells of medicine/iodine solution, fruity behind it
    • Taste
incredibly soft and velvety, first mild, sweet, then a spiciness builds up, tingles on the tongue, then the sweetness again. A lot is happening here! Reminds me of the Connemara Original at the end
    • Finish
short, drying, some sweetness and some peat smoke hiding in the background
