I like it overall with its spicy old wood notes. More on the (woody) spicy than fruity side - you have to like it. Measured against some Glenfarclas Family Cask in the age segment - which costs a little twice as much - one can speak of a good PLV here.

more on the tangy than fruity-sweet side; spicy old wood notes (old wall unit); some furniture polish; burnt caramel; Brown sugar; nutty notes towards hazelnuts; behind it notes of dark fruits; raisins; prunes; Water and time in the glass reinforce the sweet and fruity notes

nice mouthfeel; Spicy attack on the palate with old oak notes present; Caramel; Brown sugar; dark fruit notes; dark chocolate; delicate herbal notes

tart-spicy; some dark chocolate; Espresso; some herbal notes; old wood

It's one of those things with Glenfarclas - they can be very tasty or they can be difficult and musty from old casks. This is a bottling for the Netherlands from autumn 2021, has a beautiful, natural refill sherry color and has been bottled at a certainly sufficient 53.5% vol. reduced. So this could be one of the delicious Glenfarclas…

Exactly the expected aromas rise from the glass. Warm sherry scent with spices and nuts, orange juice, marmalade with orange peel, clear wood, which is not musty or bitter in the aroma. With a little water, it becomes a nut cake with cooked plums, custard and hints of clove and cinnamon bark.
    • Taste
The taste is strong on the woody side. But here, too, it is beautiful wood, just as I would like it to be as a whisky drinker: spicy, nutty, without mold and old bitterness. And the alcohol is also strong, so maybe a drop of water can be added. Even with water, it doesn't become fruity but retains its spicy power, it comes nut chocolate with finely tart cocoa.
    • Finish
The nutty Oloroso wood note remains in the aftertaste, but there is also a bit of plum peel on the palate.

One of my first whiskys a few decades ago (what a bad sentence...) was a Glenfarclas. After that, Glenfiddich was no longer an option for me. And in the blurred memory, it was precisely the aromas of nutty oak and dark, sweet fruit juice with spices and a slight bitterness of cloves that were beautifully present here that convinced me. But it is not too pleasing either, it is not a modern sherry bomb, but has character. And in the glass he developed Scotch Mist with water - I'm thrilled. Lucky the Netherlands, this Glenfarclas isn't difficult - it's great!

Pretty much in the same style as last year's NL edition (ID 165930).

      Apple, blackberry and almond.
    • Taste
      86 86
Apple, blackberry, almond, fig and spice. Adding water is not beneficial, it releases that schnappsy side of Glenfarclas which makes this whisky appear much younger than it is.
    • Finish
      86 86
      Marzipan, apple, caramel and blueberry.

As befits a Glenfarclas, the whisky is heavily sherry, covered in chocolate and with delicate pepper notes. Alcohol very well hidden, A warming tip with a hint of dark chocolate, sherry and honey-bitter accents.

Very sweet, with a lot of raisiny PX influence.
