In my opinion, Lindores has a very large potential, it is very good to drink for the age and makes you want more in the future
    • Nose
The first impression is positive, sweet, fruity, slightly grassy, no off notes, malty, butter biscuits, Mirabelle plums, a hint of almonds, light spiciness, also fruit peel, herbs, but more like tea, a pinch of pepper, freshly sliced vanilla,
    • Taste
Creamy, sweet, yellow fruit, intense, now more like tangerine and mango/passion fruit, slightly tart, vanilla, pleasing, the biscuit is slightly burned, a touch of salt on the tip of the tongue
    • Finish
Lovely here, a lot of tangerine, some fruit bowl, here you can still feel the youth, has something of a good fruit brandy, now also nutty, hazelnut

    Potential

At the end of 2021, a new release of Lindores appeared that was exclusively matured in bourbon casks. Remember that the first release was a mix of bourbon, sherry and wine casks. So we can expect a completely different whisky here, I think. No less than 11,000 bottles were launched at a very friendly price. I have to say that it is very pale.

The nose offers coconut, a truckload of vanilla and white chocolate with puffed rice. Yep: Galak Popri, indeed. In addition, something that reminds me of yeast, which betrays its young age. Finally, some farmer's butter.

The body is on the light side and yet it comes in a bit alcoholic. Well, it hasn't had enough time to integrate, I think. Vanilla, unripe pineapple, the flesh of a coconut. Hint of lime juice. Nevertheless, a pleasant 'drinker'. The young age plays a bit of a part in this.

The finish is medium and sweet. Some white pepper on the deathbed.

Ideal as an aperitif, so to speak. That being said, the potential is undeniable. Wait until it's 10 years old, then we're going to experience something, I think.

Slightly one sided in the frontal vanilla overflows but overall good whisky considering the age. Tasty influences of banana on the tongue, towards lemon on the aftertaste, a little bitter.

Lindores Abbey Casks of Lindores Bourbon Cask 49.4%.

    30ml sample, Feb 2022.

    Pale, yellow-hued.

Aroma is hard to pin down, quite subtle, touches of trifle and cheesecake, gooseberry and oatcake. Maybe hints at kiwi. Pleasant aroma, if a little subdued.

Taste is soft and subtle, as I have come to expect from this distillery. The abv isn’t low at nearly 50%, but blind I would have guessed lower. The alcohol is nicely integrated, the spirit is pretty clean. There’s a soft gluey vibe behind subtle lime and cracker-like malt, some pisco-like notes. A little salty on the swallow with something vaguely seasidey – rock candy stick alongside a minerality that makes me think of seashells, if that makes the slightest bit of sense.

Fairly good, clean stuff. The cask character is very subtle - to the extent that you could be forgiven for thinking this was a barrel-aged tequila. I’m guessing this is 3 years old and comes from the cold part of the warehouse. Very much a 'first whisky of the evening' sort of a whisky. Good but not nearly as enjoyable as some of my first experiences of this distillery's output.

You really have to be open to the clean spirit character of this distillery in order to enjoy this. That works for me, but maybe not for everyone. 3.4/81

Still very youthful but still good to drink. Ripe, exotic fruit notes with very nice aromas on the nose. The distillery definitely has potential.

Lindores Abbey, 3 years, "The Casks of Lindores - Bourbon", 49.4% alc. Expansion: Bourbon barrels

Nose: This Lindores Abbey starts with citrus fruits, mango and some pineapple, plus fresh vanilla pods, marshmallows, shortbread and a little fudge. With a little time in the glass, the citrus fruits become clearer, I think mandarins.

Palate: As fruity as in the nose, but with a lot of pepper. Mandarins, vanilla, apple compote and even more colorful pepper. Here you can still feel the youth, the pepper makes the whisky appear much drier and suppresses the fruit aromas.

Finish: Long and warming, more balanced than on the palate, slightly dry. Pleasant interplay between the fruit notes and black pepper.

Conclusion: young, strong and with a lot of potential. A nice experience for such a young whisky, even if you can clearly tell its age. But something really great is created here. 82/100 points (2022)
