A great whiskey that shows the potential of blending. 88 points.
    • Nose
A fantastic nose. In their moderate proportions, Ardbeg and Caol Ila ensure a noticeable but by no means dominant smoke. In addition, there is a very creamy sweetness and various citrus fruits. Mild lemons. Some cold honey.
    • Taste
Really extremely cute! The smoke is there, but in the background. Sweetness dominates. pear, lemon cake. Just great!
    • Finish
      Long, subtly smoky, fruity.

Today is my thirty-third birthday and I finally have the opportunity to sit down to the bottle that I picked out a few months ago.

    Compass Box Ethereal 49%
A blend of distillates from the Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Old Pulteney and Miltonduff distilleries
Barrels: Recharred and refill American oak-barrels and hogsheads

Nose: At first, there is a hit of ashes and burnt wood, then the smoke becomes lighter and sweet peat appears, and then vanilla, honey and salt. The aroma is very fresh and volatile, the alcohol is well hidden. Then we have exotic fruits: overripe mango and pineapple, yogurt with exotic fruits, cheesecake with fruits, white wine and salt again at the end; after 15 minutes some algae, sea breeze, strong minerality and citrus. Very complex aroma and no matter what I put my nose in the glass, I feel something else.

Taste: very citrusy at first, sour mango, very oily; then vanilla and toffee, and after a while BAM! a hit of smoke and ashes, but it's like I've swallowed water from a fire, just ashes and nothing else; when the hit eases, sour cream, bittersweet herbs, wet peat and again citrus and mango appear

Finish: long, slightly bitter cherries, smoked plum, very pleasant and "warm", burnt wood, nice barrel

Sum: outstanding whiskey, perfectly balanced, I did not expect such complexity; this is no ordinary blend; to achieve such an effect you must really know what you are doing; the components of individual distilleries do not sound solo, but form a perfect quartet; a mega positive surprise, balance and complexity bonus!

    91/100

Very solid. Taste and composition - as expected - still stand out a little. I have to admit though: I expected or hoped for more.

Quite a worthy and interesting cocktail with smoky tones, smoked yellow fruits, dried dried fruits, and ashes at the end. However, a little stiff.

In fact, the status quo is that under the premise of CB's announcement of the formula, many people are not even willing to open Google to search, and they know to ask. Of course, it may indeed be faster to ask someone for an answer than to find it yourself.
I don't want to write shyly, say something else. This thing actually has a lot of peat smell, I just say it is full, not too much. The whole is light and fresh. More importantly, it is full of layers throughout the tasting process. As a blended whisky, it has ups and downs, and even a little bit of storytelling at some point.
The ingredient list is actually quite luxurious, not to mention the winery and proportions. It is prepared with liquors ranging from 17 to 21 years, and the price released later is actually not very high. I think the price/performance ratio is online. To be honest, with the wine label of CB, plus the quality of the wine, and the gimmick of LMDW, it may be difficult to think of cheap things in the future.
    Stuff is really nice.

Winter melon, light smoke from asphalt and burning moss. Sour mustard was short-lived. The smell of dirt at the construction site. A tiny bit of sweetness from Mandarin orange, melon and Asian pears, both with skin. Some vague dark plum flesh and cherry. Salty preserved lime to finish. More beetroot and even a bit floral after a sip.
    • Taste
      90 90
Apple and cantaloupe juice with a splash of orange zest. Pandan leaves, chalk and fresh longan. The richness did last with the background full of charcoal, roasted sweet potatoes and chestnut mash.
    • Finish
      89 89
Sweet baked chestnut. Roasted cinnamon with lingering vegetative peat and some wet burnt wood. The muddy and sweet aftertaste was good.

Light, pleasant, oaky peaty nose, black radish, sweet smoke, fruit, sour apple, juicy pear, white grape, yellow plums. Black earth, dirty rock, basalt, slate, vegetables from the kitchen garden, zucchini flowers, beans. Some hints of iodine. A little austere in the mouth, we quickly go over spices, pepper, pepper, cumin, pine needles. The vanilla is there, discreet, accompanied by sea salt. Fairly long, fruity finish, on dried bananas and forest berries. Blackberries. Coal.

Serge has awarded 90 points to the Ethereal Scotch Whisky.
"Comments: let's forget that this is 'just a blend' and do it justice. The 49% vol. work really well, won't they become the new 46?"
