While it can still keep up to some extent in the nose, it breaks apart completely in the mouth. A bourbon barrel that was much too active overtook everything. In addition to the bitter notes, it sometimes works like a vanilla / coconut shampoo (without the soap).

Would have been an ideal barrel for a standard blend. But something like that shouldn't be bottled as a single malt - and certainly not as a single cask.

The bottom line is the same disappointment as the other Switzerland Exclusive 66.156. I rated it better, but had higher expectations.
At the 39.212 I had no expectations and was still disappointed.
    • Nose
      84 84
Pure: very sweet (powdered sugar), fried banana, a powdery women's perfume (Miss Dior), citrus, rose, vanilla, sour apple (Boskop)

      With water:
less sweet, the notes from "pure nose" are still there, but weaker and are overlaid by notes of wood.
    • Taste
      76 76
Pure: Apple strudel with lots of powdered sugar and vanilla sauce comes to mind, Earl Gray tea (with lots of bergamot), furniture polish, coconut, calvados

      With water:
Candied ginger, tea, spicy - significantly better without water
    • Finish
      74 74
      Getting drier and more bitter

  4. Armando did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

SMWS notes: The initial nose surprised us with a lush sweetness (powdered sugar, candied fruits) and white flowers (lily, magnolia, frangipani). After a while, we had the impression of being in a garden shed in late autumn with smells of wet wood, fragrant mint and spruce needles. Members had childhood memories of checking out the kiosk at the local lido or eating apple strudel on a sunny terrace after skiing. The initial taste offers a lot of orchard fruits (pear, apple), vanilla and some exotic fruits reminding us of the last Piña Colada we had on a cruise ship. Reduction underlines the sweetness. Strawberry yoghurt, fresh mint and cake icing appear. The sun is shining on a Ticino south slope with hints of jasmine and azalea. The finish shows hints of white pepper and liquorice, like a bittersweet symphony.
